what's an on-line baby shower?

irl i'm not really planning anything yet; might have a come-and-meet-the-baby party after, instead? that part is still pretty murky to me. i like the idea of a blessingway, though--gathering strength for labor from all my women friends. yum.

An online baby shower is where anyone from this due date club who wants to participates by giving the coordinator their personal info (name, address, etc) and sends/receives a gift for the baby or for the birth. We'll pick a day to have our cyber shower and then open the gifts. We could have a theme like labor or baby essentials. It's pretty fun, I did it on another board. The gifts can be of monetary value with a spending limit, or hand-made--

Jesse! I'm so happy to find you here! I'm trying to find a new pg-online-home where I feel truly comfortable . . . finding you here is a good hint that this may be it LOL
In any case, to answer this particular post, I'm not planning any shower of any kind for this pg -- Fiona was born only 2 years ago and I plan just to reuse all of her stuff. My mom is a shopping fanatic, so I'm sure should this one be a boy that we won't be hurting for baby clothes LOL.
I would love a "mother" party . . . but I don't see that happening

Well, guess I should go post an intro now!

The Online Shower sounds neat, I never heard of it before...

As far as a shower, this is my fourth baby within 7 years, I doubt my family will have a shower since I still have all my stuff from the other kids.

Something I heard of for subsequent babies, which I think is the most fabulous idea ever, was having a regular shower, but instead of bringing baby gifts, the guests brought meals you can freeze and prepare after you have the baby! Isn't that just genious!?!

I would love to have a gathering with family and friends like that, but is it bad ettiquette to throw it yourself
?!?

I just re-read the idea behind the online shower...is it like a gift exchange? Like the coordinator would pick names from a hat or whatever, and match up everyone that participates with someone else? So your name will go to someone and you'll get a gift from them, then you will have someone else's name and send them a gift? (Just checking that it's one gift we are sending/receiving.)

Or do I have it totally wrong?!?

No showers planned here, we only do showers for first babies in my family/circle of friends and then you're on your own. I've got everything I need anyhow, practically, and most of it's still in very good condition.

As far as a cyber shower, I think I'm game...

Oh Yeah! You made my day. I'm PMing you--LMK if you don't know how to retreive your PMs.

I was thinking of stopping by the "other board" just to say hi to you, but can't drag myself there! Now I'm totally content here!

And yes, the idea of an online baby shower is a gift exchange. Everyone who participates will send/receive a gift.

I was thinking that we should do something out-of-the-ordinary and have the focus be either on handmade or mother-focused gifts, but I'm game for anything.

I'm game for the on-line shower.

I never had a shower with DS. We don't need much in the way of baby gear. But, I do want to start a cd supply for a newborn. My mainstream family and friends may not be willing to go for that.

I love the idea of a blessing way (but er .. mainstream family/friends) and the food party. I might have to bring that up if anyone offers to host a shower for me.

PS- shower ettiquite is tricky. I didn't host a shower for myself. But, my friend did for her second shower (one pregnancy).

My friend had suggested a diapers and wipes party, but I had to remind her that I use cloth diapers AND wipes, so it would be kinda tricky to pull that off! I am on baby #4, and even though I got rid of virtually everything, I doubt anyone will come through with a shower. I am just thinking people will bring a little gift when they come for their first visit. I am hitting consignment shops and ebay for some great bargains, and have done really well so far!

This is my third baby in 4 years so I wasn't expecting a shower of any kind, but my sil just told me she'd like to throw me one today and far be it from me to stop her
I didn't have one with my second and I got rid of a lot of baby clothes since we thought we were done having babies. I plan on going to consignment shops too. I had good luck with that the first time around.
