I am a large breasted woman, and I find that the baby latches off my breast when I don't hold my breast in her mouth. I would prefer that she just nurse without having to hold the breast but it doesn't work. Any suggestions? This happens in the side lying position, too.

How old is your baby? I'm a 34G, and I had to support my breast for a while, too. I can't remember exactly how long it was. I did notice that I was able to let go sooner when I nursed in a position that gave me good control of his head, like cross cradle or the football hold. Those are tiring holds, though, because you're really using your hand to hold the baby up.

40G here - I support my boob when I get dd to the breast - and we're just using the side lying position at the moment. Once she gets going, I have been able to put a folded burpie under my boob to get it at the right height, but it's 50/50.

Sorry, afraid to say I still gotta hold mine and dd is 8 months.

I thought all those nice BF and nursing clothing ads where the mother is just cradling the baby and the baby is just stuck onto the boob were just false advertising. I have no idea how they do that.

:LOL

I always thought so too...until I visited my cousin, nursing her three week old by holding her in the crook of her arm while chasing after a 13-month-old. Oh, well, it's holding up for me!

Glad someone else is a holder. I am a 38 F. My ds is 3 months, and I figure that I will never be an easy nurser.

BTW, I am also a student IBCLC and am considering making my senior project protocals for BF for large-breasted women (maybe even to publish). Anything you want to tell me about your challenges, and solutions would be great!

I'm probably a 38C(or a bit bigger), and I hold my breast when I feed baby (he'll be 3 months on Thursday). I don't see that stopping any time soon, if I don't hold it there, he sometimes will get distracted and fall off, or it just pops out of his mouth.
