I have always used Johnson and Johnsons Head--To-Toe Baby wash and Lotion for my kids (I know you all are cringing right now
). I just started reading about parabens lately--UGH--so I want to switch to something healthy to use, especially on the baby who is only 4 months old. I hate to admit this, but I'm a sucker for a great scent.

I know there is Burts Bees, Jason, California Baby and Weleda out there, but what's good? Any other brands?

We are BIG Weleda fans.
The bottles might seem quite expensive at first glance but they last for ages (I think we only bought 1-2 bottles each year). They have a lovely Calendula baby bath and baby oil...and they smell great!

I use California Baby's Calendula lotion on DD. It's great. I use it on myself too. It's good for dry spots as well as scrapes and bruises. We use Burt's Bees Buttermilk lotion too. It has a thinner consistency than the California Baby Calendula lotion.

I used Terressentials. LOVE all of their products that I have used. None of the easier to find products are clean enough for me when you really look into the ingredients. I think that "organic" and "natural" should mean the same thing in body care products as it does in food.

But we don't use anything for the first 4-6 months with any essential oils. Smell is very important for imprinting babies to parents. We just wash with a little EVOO.

The whole family uses Dr. Bronner's castile soap to wash. For my babe, I heavily dilute it. I absolutely love Dr. Bronner's. We wash our hair in it, hands, body and even clothes and fruits and veggies (the unscented for edible stuff) sometimes. In the winter, I was using Weleda Baby Creme (which I absolutely loved and which really helped with the dry winter skin) along with a homemade body butter I made from 1/2 shea butter and 1/2 coconut oil and some drops oflavender essential oil. Now that it is hot, I make up a baby oil using 1/2 olive oil, 1/2 sweet almond oil and some lavender essential oil. Every once in a while, I infuse the olive oil with calendula flowers (just simmer the flowers in the oil for a few hours) or just go with straight olive oil and some drops of lavender essential oil.

Oh yeah . . . for the first few mos. of ds life I didn't use any scents at all either, i.e. no essential oils.

Can you talk to me more about this? I'm very interested to learn more! Imprinting babies to parents? Washing with EVOO?

Imprinting is part of the early bonding that takes place for a newborn. It refers to some of the neurological attachments that are developed mostly with scent and visual stimulation. If you saw the March of the Penguins, baby penguins can find their father out of all of the daddy penguins. This identification has to do with imprinting.

Babies don't really get "dirty" early on. We just washed DD in warm water mostly. We are kind of conditioned to believe that we need more than water to get clean. For the diaper area, we would put a couple of drops of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) on a wash cloth for washing. The oil traps soil and rinses away while adding moisture to the skin. We only did the EVOO thing once every 7-10 days. Babies just really aren't that dirty in my opinion.

Hope this helps and answers any questions that you had.

Peace

For YDS I have used African Black Soap from hair to toes; plenty of oil for his dry skin (he tends toward exema) and I use butters for hair conditioner as well as body lotion (for the yummy smells
)
I get mine from www.kindheartedwomen.com They were closed for awhile this summer, but I believe they will be opening back up this month. At least I hope so; I'm on my last bar of ABS.
For my DD I used mostly Burts Bees products.
