I'm wondering how new sling wearing is in our country. Or any kind of carrier that's asymmetrical. And if there has been any research on the affects on the baby wearer's body- back, posture, etc., because of the off-centered nature of the sling.

I wear dd in a Maya wrap almost constantly and I love it. I know it distributes her weight pretty evenly but I'm definitly not as straight and balanced as I should be I don't think. I tried switching sides but it's not really made to go the other way (unless I'm doing it wrong, which is entirely possible) unless I have it on "inside-out" and I'm totally uncoordinated with it on the other side.

I'm wondering because I'm the daughter of a chiropractor and well, my dad's sort of been on my case about it. And of course he's conditioned me to be extremely concious of my posture at all times. :LOL

I highly doubt there's any kind of research. I know for myself that if I'm going to carry ds for a good while, like outside for a walk, I'll use a frame backpack or the Ergo. I definitely don't like one-shoulder slings for extended wear. It hurts!

For errands, I love the Walking Rock Farm Hip Baby carrier. Although it is a one-shoulder type, the shoulder is very well padded and there's a hip belt to put weight on the hips, so it's not *all* on your shoulder.

I agree, if DS is going to be in the sling for a long time it's to the Kozy we go. But it's harder to get on so I use it when I know he willbe in it longer. The sling hurts me shoulder more and more as he gets older. And he weighs 24 lbs. I can't imagine holding a 35 lb toddler!

FWIW....My chiropractor has told me repeatedly that one-shouldered carriers are fine as long as you switch every so often - become more ambidextrous. What she does not seem to understand is that my left hand is practically useless. I am the least ambidextrous baby holder on the planet.
