Bethany Women's Health Center is the only one I am aware of in the Phoenix metro area (one in West Valley, the other in the East Valley). I went there and had a very good experience. Sorry, I don't have the number handy... I'll see if I can find it.

are there any specific person/people you'd recommend or are they all good there? did they respect your wishes? is it a busy, rush around place or a more laid back calming place to be?

I've been to both offices and I think the mesa office is slower and more relaxed than the phoenix office but I don't have personal experience with the midwives (I was with my sister...I was high risk so I couldn't use them)

If for some reason they don't work out or you do end up needing to go to a hospital, I must say that Chandler Regional was really good to me. Dr. Partridge was my OB and said he doesn't believe in cutting a woman and all the nurses were VERY helpful with establishing BF'ing and anyone who noticed commented how happy they were to see we didn't circ. During delivery, I was hooked up to external monitors (I had GD) but they were encouraging me to walk around and most of the pushing was done on my hands and knees.

Obviously, they are not the same as a birthing center, but I got exactly the experience I'dimagined.

Thanks for responding I really appreciate it but...I saw that practice 3 times in the beginning of my pregnancy and I was absolutely appalled by the treatment and lack of respect I was given(I didn't see doctor partridge thoguh) I was very disappointed with them. I'm in the process of filing complaints with the owners goodman and partridge on the ones who 'un'cared for me. Good that you didn't have the same experience though

Aw, that sucks! Everyone should get top notch care while pregnant!!! I will say though that since I had GD, I almost always saw a doctor. The couple times I did see a PA they were pretty clueless. Like when I had PUPPPs (insane, rare rash in the 3rd trimester that goes away like magic upon delivery, but makes you wish you had no skin until you get treated) I knew more about it than the PA I saw- I had to tell her what it was!!! It is kind of a large practice so I can see where bad habits could go unnoticed by the people in charge.

I hope you find a birthing center and don't need them at all though!

Yes, I've met Marinah and she has this really soft calm voice. Definitely a voice I wouldn't mind hearing in my most emotional state of labor!

Where is the Mesa birth center located???

It isn't a freestanding birth center in Mesa. It's a satellite office where you can go for exams. You still have to deliver at the Phx birth center, Phx Baptist, St. Joes, or JCL-North.

The office is University/Country Club

OK, that's what I figured. It's nice to know there's an office at least. I keep telling my SIL (an RN) that we should become midwives and open a birth center in the east valley... Someday, maybe.

I third the recomendation for Marinah - she was one of my midwives. Robin Sharples Ray is also incredible - she was with me for both my births.

For the Birth Center - Lynette Casey is head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion. Love that woman.
