Hello,

I have a 5 month old little love, and will be returning to work when she is 8 - 9 months old. I plan to pump at work and nurse when I'm home, 'til she is at least 1 if not a lot longer.

Should we introduce a bottle or cup to her for drinking while I'm at work? And when should we start with it?

Thanks!

Eo

If I remembe right I introduced cups at nine months we eliminated a bottle a month to 12months my twins were bottle fed and replaced it with a cup...why not start it probably the lunch or midday feeding give the cup, but who knows if your baby will be satisfied with a cup all day at that age BF babies are different IMO. The morning bottle seemed to be the last to go...but my two slept 12=13 hours at night.

I'd go straight to a cup. Nuby makes one that has a very soft spout that BF babies seem to like. My DD (who had EBM in bottles from 6 weeks on) went to one of those at 8-9 months and completely quit bottles by a year.

i pump and bottlefeed my 5 month old and honestly can't see how she could possibly handle drinking out of a cup at this age. if i were you, i would get a bottle with an infant nipple (slow flow) that is closest to the breast nipple-flow (like Playtex Dropins) and let whoever is babysitting her feed her your expressed milk through a bottle.
bottles are not from the devil or anything. they are actually quite useful and convenient.
