I just went for my first appointment today - just found out Monday I'm pregnant
- and the midwife told me I've got bacterial vaginosis. She gave me a prescription & said that it shouldn't cause a miscarriage this early, but I could use a little reassurance...

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

BV most definitely shouldn't cause you to miscarry at this stage, however further along in your pregnancy it has been known to cause premature labor. Let's hope it's gone by then though...

If you're given antibiotics to combat this nasty little visitor, make sure you replenish your good bacteria as well by eating yogurt and taking acidophilous pills. Last thing you want is to get rid of BV only to turn around and get a yeast infection....

Good luck and I'm sending sticky baby vibes your way...

thank you so much, hopeful1, that's really good to hear.

I'm really having a hard time since my appointment (I also really didn't feel comfortable with my midwife), and am so scared that I'm going to miscarry. My temp took a dip this morning, too, so I'm thankful for any sticky baby vibes I can get!
I had a yeast infection with a small amount of BV early on, and I'm still carrying the pregnancy so far (knock on wood). I had PPROM last time, so I did take care of the BV right away, as that can cause PPROM. ACV rinse externally and diluted tea tree oil (diluted in almond oil) vaginally seemed to knock it out! I also took probiotics orally.

If you don't feel comfortable with your midwife - how are you going to feel while in labor for hours? Find a midwife you are comfortable with and that you can talk to "like a person". Even a doctor that you are comfortable with is better than anyone that you are "uncomfortable" with. I've also known people to change midwives/doctors just weeks before birth because they finally got the courage to do so and they just weren't comfortable with his/her birthing philosophy. So don't wait that long, and find someone now - for the sake of your baby, and for you!
