So, I've been a little itchy here and there, but nothing major.....No out of the ordinary smells or abnormal discharge. I thought it was just a normal pregnancy symptom because of all the hormonal changes.<br><br>
Anyhow, I had a papsmear this morning and my midwife told me that I have bacterial vaginosis!!! I was devastated when she told me that I'd have to take antibiotics for 7 whole days! Surely, this would disrupt my own baby's developing digestive system! I've never had this before!!! Immediately, I called my acupuncturist/herboligist who prescribed me some chinese herbal formulas and gave me some dietary advice to help get rid of this nasty thing.<br><br>
Has anyone else had this while they were pregnant and how did you get rid of it? It is not a yeast infection, which can be cured with an anti-fungal cream or other alternative measures....but an actual bacterial infection. Hopefully, the chinese herbs will help, but any advice would be VERY helpful!!! I DO NOT want to take antibiotics; which I have not had to take for over 10 years!<br><br>

I had it with my first pregnancy and my MW suggested taking pro-biotics and eating yogurt to combat the bad bacteria with the good and it worked.<br><br>
Don't worry, it's pretty common during pregnancy.

For a while I had recurring BV but I wasn't pregnant. I understand not wanting to take drugs while pregnant. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/hug.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="hug"> If you do end up having to take antibiotics, know that they're not all the same and the one you were prescribed is most likely safe for your babe's development. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/hug.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="hug">

I just treated this myself! I did a daliy douche with a peroxide solution of about 1:4 peroxide<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/Welcome.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="welcome">ater for one week. (you can get a plain-old douche at Walgreens that has no chemicals or prepared cr*p in it). I was sypmtom free at the end of the week but if I hadn't of been I would have rested a week then repeated a week later. If you do some research on pub.med about peroxide and BV, you'll find quite a bit to indicate that it is very treatable (And that the regular course of anitbiotics may not be very effective at treating it). good luck!

I have that with my 1st pregnancy, but not since then. I think my ob gave me some cream to use and that seemed to clear it up. It wasn't a yeast infection I think it was BV. I think it's pretty normal to get things like that while pregnant.
