I use canned baked beans. First I cook some bacon on the stove and carmelize chopped bell pepper and onion with it. Once they're cooked, I add the canned beans with some sugar and vanilla. I simmer that very low for about 15 minutes, then stick them in the oven while I finish making dinner, usually about 20 minutes at about 250, more for warming and flavor than anything.

Where's what I do:

1/2 cup navy beans, soaked and halfway cooked
Add to the water:

1/4 cup or so of molasses, I don't really measure
Big dash of sugar optional
Some ketchup or tomato paste
dash of ground mustard
salt and pepper
garlic and onion powders

Simmer, crockpot, or actually bake the rest of the way
Drain a little of the liquid into a bowl, whisk in a couple Tbs of flour to thicken the sauce and add it back in to the beans when the beans are cooked.

I made some honey baked beans last night with the honey baked lentils recipe, just using some already cooked navy beans instead of the lentils. They turned out fabulously.
