Hi!
I am looking for a bamboo or bamboo cotton blend for making flats- so i was thinking maybe of a birdseye weave or somthing similar?
I did find a bamboo/cotton velour, but i do not think that would take snappis too well.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
TIA!

I've heard that bamboo french terry or bamboo loop terry will take a snappi. Bamboo velour really won't, at least not the velour I've tried! I haven't seen bamboo birdseye, or even bamboo twill. Good luck! Bamboo flats sound so luscious!

Thanks for the input! I have found a store that does sell a varity of bamboo fabrics, but they are mostly knits and velours. I'll keep on looking though!

Hey sorry to bring this thread back to life from page two, but I have a question.

I am looking at possibly making some bamboo diapers, I was scanning at some pages to get some ideas and it seems like some people use bamboo as a cover.. does this even work? What all can and do you use bamboo for?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend bamboo as a cover; It's quite a thirsty fabric.

Cloth Essentials is having a coop right now on bamboo french terry and bamboo fleece. I've never used bamboo before but I am trying to make the trimest diapers possible for my baby due in January and from what I've gathered, bamboo is the way to go. From my many questions people have said the french terry is better for the body layer and the fleece is better for soakers. I want to get some regular terry also, I haven't seen a coop on that and I'm probably going to get it from the bamboo fabric store (10% off is a good deal too!) I've also heard some good things about interlock but I'm not exactly sure what part of the diaper it would be.

kokonutmama, is there a type of bamboo fabric that you sell that would work as a wicking layer for next to the baby's skin? That is the one thing I haven't figured out yet, I've heard some bad things about microfiber lately (the smell) but I want a nice layer next to the baby to wick away the wetness.

The trouble is that bamboo fibers are so absorbant, they wick well to AIR--where evaporation pulls moisture out the other side of the fabric--but not into a diaper. As far as I know, if you want baby's bum to stay dry or dryish, the solution is synthetic fleece.

I've heard that the velour is the easiest (not as slippery) to sew.
An idea: When making prefolds out of the velour, you can just add "snappiable" fabric (such as terry) to the outside of it. I'm not sure how/if it would work with the flats. I haven't tried it, but it may be work a shot, though it is an extra step.
