We have a bunch of the Bamboozles. I only use them at night for my dd. While I do like them, it's a love hate relationship.
First of all, yes....they do need a cover. I usually use a wool cover since I just use them for overnight.
IMO, you need an insert (I use a fleece topped microfiber doubler) b/c the bamboo stays wet. Which is fine, it keeps my dd drier and adds absorbancy, but it also adds bulk. Pair all that with a cover and you have one big bulky diaper! That's why we only use them at night.
But, I have to say....my dd is a belly sleeper and getting to be a heavy wetter and we rarely have a leak. These can hold alot.
They also take a loooong time to dry on low, the recommended setting. HTH!
