Muslim mosques and Hindu temples blared messages through loudspeakers urging parents to bring their children to be immunised using an oral vaccine.<br><br>
"The response is very impressive. Millions of parents are thronging to health centres to get their kids vaccinated against polio," health ministry spokesman Golam Kibria said Saturday.<br><br>
The ministry said it aimed to immunise all 24 million children under the age of five Saturday. Children under five are most at risk from the virus.<br><br>
It planned to repeat the process at least nine times over the next 12 months, administering oral drops to each child again, to ensure no-one was left out. It said administering repeat drops would have no side-effects.</td>
