"The response is very impressive. Millions of parents are thronging to health centres to get their kids vaccinated against polio," health ministry spokesman Golam Kibria said Saturday.<br><br>
The ministry said it aimed to immunise all 24 million children under the age of five Saturday. Children under five are most at risk from the virus.<br><br>
It planned to repeat the process at least nine times over the next 12 months, administering oral drops to each child again, to ensure no-one was left out. It said administering repeat drops would have no side-effects.</td>

oral vaccine? they like to cause polio as well as try to prevent it? and giving it NINE TIMES to each child?! are they insane?!<br><br>
why not try to ensure proper hygiene and sanitation, and access to food and clean water? i know, i know, the vaccine is cheaper. but this does NOT sound like a good idea in any way, shape or form. disgusting.

Aylward, Dr. Nicholas Grassly and Dr. Christophe Fraser of Imperial College London told reporters that switching to a monovalent vaccine against the dominant strain in India from the standard trivalent vaccine that protects against three types of polio virus is the key.<br><br><span style="color:#FF0000;"><b>In a study published in the journal Science they said the virus has been so persistent, <span style="text-decoration:underline;">despite good immunization coverage in northern India, because of overcrowded living conditions and poor sanitation</span>.<br><br>
Those conditions in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar made the oral poliovirus vaccine less effective than in other parts of India and immunized children were still being infected.</b></span></i>

What, again???? They already did 18 million children this year!
