My son loves bath time . Today he was floating and enjoying the warm water, and he discovered that it was fun to put his head back enough for his ears to go underwater. He got a huge smile on his face, and laughed when I talked to him because it sounded funny. Its so fun to watch them experience new things .

My concern is you always hear not to get water in the baby's ears during baths. This is usually mentioned in regards to newborns and DS is 5 months. Do you think its safe now for his ears to be submerged for a bit? What's the concern with not getting water in the ears? Infection?

I was concerned too an asked my pediatritian (dd is 5 months old). She said a little water is not dangerous but you shall dry those ears with special q-tips for babies after the bath. Would love to hear more opinions though, as I'm still a little bit concerned, lol

I'm curious too. I was asking my friend Sandy about this the other day and she didn't think it was a big deal. But I thought I read about it being bad somewhere, so I'd rather err on the side of caution. :

I've been bathing with my ds since he was about 3 weeks old. He has always like floating on his back (w/ my hands under his head and bottom). He turns his head and I let his body float in the direction he turns. His ears always get in the water - I worried at first, but have never had any problems - but I think to be on the safe side I'm going to start putting alcohol in his ears after his bath. He also will get the water in his eyes sometimes - which I really don't like, but since I don't use any soap yet - I guess it's okay - he doesn't seem to care about the water in his eyes, but I'm worried it will dry them out.

lilirose, how old were you when you started using the alcohol drops? Seems an interesting tip.
I wouldn't care about the water in baby's eyes, even if it has a little soap because you can rinse them latter with clear water. It's like swimming in a pool. Not big deal.
