I have a question that is uncomfortable for me to ask but I am wondering if anybody else here is going through the same thing. I am usually very regular with no pooping issues of any kind. Since becoming pregnant I find that I am either constipated or have diarrhea. The constipation sucks, of course, but the diarrhea that usually follows after two days without going is even worse because I get horrible cramps that makes me worry if something is wrong with the baby until I realize what it is I am just curious if anyone else is going through this and if it is a normal pregnancy symptom? Also, if anyone has any "cures" please do share!

No advice or cures, just "yeah, what's with the weird pooping?" I have had the constipation and the cramps (which I get with the constipation and not the diarrhea) and the fear that goes along with the cramps and the diarrhea, which happens more in the morning but can hit anytime (while driving, not cool). I may have a crap memory because I have no recollection of this with DD. I am not too freaked out by it, except for the cramps, of course they worry me. Sorry, Wildecat, I only have sympathy and .

I think this is a pretty common problem in pregnancy - your intestines are getting all rearranged! You could try taking a probiotic every day, a good one, out of the cooler section of a store. Might help, certainly won't hurt, and has other pleasant side effects.

I deal with major constipation in pregnancy, when usually I have no issues at all.

I am usually a very, um, regular "pooper."

I haven't been constipated at all. But the diarrhea...ugh!!!! It's bad! Like, I'm scared to leave my house anytime before noon. I'm cutting back on dairy and hoping that makes a difference...just trying to stick with yogurt, and I also bought tempeh, to get some more probiotics in. No throwing up, despite the nausea. Just the diarrhea.

So, you're not alone! And, it appears, neither am I...thanks!

I do take a really good quality probiotic every single night and it has not helped much. I guess this is just a small price to pay for such an amazing gift.

I am having the same issue, although lately the diarrhea is pretty much gone and I am mostly just constipated. I am trying to eat a lot more fiber, but I know I'm not drinking enough water and that's probably a big part of the problem.

same here...constipated only though.
I take a very high quality refrigerated probiotic, flax and hemp oil daily and try to drink a lot of water...though i could drink more I suppose. still though, i'm not getting any improvement.

Right now I'm actually thinking it's because I'm not getting enough exercise though. I used to do a daily vinyasa yoga practice and stopped because I had bleeding about two weeks ago...now I just do some very gentle yoga and walking.

Aviva Jill Romm suggests abdominal massage, drinking warm liquids and has some constipation remedies...along with many other suggestions, but these were ones I was going to try.

and now to top it all off, I have a haemorrhoid...lovely.

Yes, I had this too until I had to start antibiotics this weeks. Now its just runny pooping (sorry for the TMI) all. day. long. Yes, and my hemorrhoid from my last pregnancy is not too happy about it.

I guess it is the increase in progesterone responsible for decreased motility in our intestines. I had a couple days which were bad, they both followed my 12 hour night work schedule. As soon as I really hydrated, increased my raw veggie intake and essential fatty acids, all was fine. My favorite rebalancing meal is brown rice with some sort of bean, drizzled with hemp seed oil or Udo's 3-6-9 blend and Bragg's liquid aminos. Top all this this chopped raw spinach, shredded carrots, beets and daikon radish!! I swear you will feel SOO good!! Remember not to chug water with meals as it can increase bloating.

Hope this helps!

No cures or advice, just letting you know that I'm right there with you. Unfortunately.

I have trouble at the best of times with bathroom issues (lifetime IBS sufferer!), but early pregnancy makes everything worse - in the opposite way. Constipation is the WORST! I am making sure to drink tons of water and eat lots of fibre and dried fruit. I am trying to really keep on top of things this time around, because I remember some seriously painful times with kid #1 - I cried and told my husband "If this is what labour is like, I don't want to do it!" Fortunately, labour has a far better result!
