Bathtub safety

Ok, so everyone has seen those plastic or foam covers for the spout, and even for faucet handles, but has anyone ever seen any kind of safety cover/device for the built in soap dish? we have an all ceramic tiled tub enclosure and it has a built in soap dish at just the perfect height for ds to grab onto and pull himself up.

Help!?

I don't go in for all those gadgets. The best way to keep baby safe is to stay right there with her and keep your eyes wide open.
I have never seen an item addressing the soap tray area. I don't know if something like this could be put in front of it: http://www.perfectlysafe.com/trapdoortoybin.html It would take care of holding the bath toys.

And as always, please do not leave your dc unattended while in the bath tub.
Well, thanks for the assumption that I would leave him unattended!
: Of course, you don't know me any more than I know you, so maybe that's not what you meant, but seeing as he's only 9 months old, he's never unattended, wet or dry.

Unfortunately, I had my hands around him and my eyes wide open and he lurched his head forward and smacked his mouth on it, resulting in a bloody lip and gum.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Aww, mama, I don't think anyone was assuming that you leave your child unattended. I think it's just that no mama wants to see another child hurt, for whatever reason.
I'm sorry your ds got hurt.
BTW, I think that toy holder thing is pretty cool and what a clever idea to put it in front of the soap holder!

Thanks Tia! I'm just feeling all "bad mommy" (there was blood! UGH), and I could not have been more on top of it as it happened! That toy thing does look good, and I'm gonna order it up ASAP!

We have one of those in our bath and I worry about it too. I'm 26 years old and managed to slip and hit my head on it so I could see how a slipper baby could hit it accidently. I have never seen anything specifically to cover them. I have a toy holder, sort of like the one above, but it is mesh. I have it set so the bottom is right over the soap dish and keep a towel in the bottom. It covers the dish. It seems to work pretty well. No split lips or heads so far.

I never meant to imply you would leave him unattended. Accidents happen to the best of us. I am sorry your little one was injured from smacking the soap tray. I hope the toy rack helps to protect the area and your little one from further injury.

I'm very sorry your baby hurt himself. They have a way of getting hurt no matter what safety gadgets we have or how closely we are watching them. I never meant to imply directly or indirectly that you don't watch your baby closely enough.

The bathtub is a dangerous place regardless, we can only do what we can do to keep them as safe as possible. Jenny learned very early on that she could not stand up in the tub, or bathtime would be over right then and there. Lots of toys in the bath to keep her occupied helps to distract her from wanting to do anything but sit and play.
Your nine month old must be much larger than my daughter was at a year - at three she can barely reach the built-in ceramic soap dish while sitting down. My biggest fear is that she'll slip and hit her head on the tub itself, rather than the faucet or soapdish.
