Battery leaked

I was changing the AA battery in my dd's "Thomas" train (small metal train that runs on a wood/groove track). When I opened the train to insert the new battery I discovered the previous battery had leaked inside the toy train.

Should I throw the toy train away? Many TIA!

I have had that happen in a toy before. I just wiped the battery compartment down with a damp cloth and dried it and then put new batteries in it without a problem.
