Hi all,

I am TTC #1 and want to find a good, very natural midwife. I will likely not be actually delivering here (we plan to move back to my homestate during the pregnancy) but I will be here for at least the first five months (assuming I get knocked up soon). So, I dont care as much about where they have delivery rights, or if they do homebirths, etc., but I just want someone who is great at all the prenatal stuff. there is always a chance that plans might change, and we may stay here, so I want to pick someone excellent (by which I mean, very natural, very experienced, very calming and supportive, very non-invasive).

any suggestions?

www.gentlebirth.org has a great list. If you're near Los Gatos I suggest Maria Gruelich, west valley womens health (phone listing under her partner's name: Dr Linda Teagle

I used Lindy Johnson as my midwife for my 2nd. She is a CNM and does hospital births at Alta Bates. She has a background in homebirths. She is very mellow and supportive. I think if your not actually concerned with the birth part (since she doesn't do homebirths) she would be great for prenatal care...and she is covered by insurance (Hill Physicans Med Grp)

If you really want a homebirth midwife I will have to get back to you as my friend who I would have recommended just moved to Taos to work at the birth center there. She was part of this group

http://www.wisewomanchildbirth.com/bahc.html

You have a great group practice of 3 midwives right in your area:

www.awakeningsbirthservices.com

I have known Juli Tilsner for a number of years now, professionally and personally and only have wonderful things to say about her as a midwife. Debra and Dana seem to be amazing midwives also. They fit the description of what you are looking for.

All the best.

PS. Their website might be having some work done on it right now, so some of the links might not be working.

PSS! I also second the suggestion of Bay Area Homebirth Collective (they have the website at wisewomanchildbirth)
I had Abigail and Leah at my last birth and I they are both beautiful women and fantastic midwives. I am also familiar with a number of other midwives in the collective so feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. I didn't mention Abigail and Leah earlier because I am pretty sure Abigail only attends births in the city (and marin) and Leah has a baby, so I am not sure if she is back in practice yet. They have a more comprehensive website at http://bayareahomebirth.org/
