Ouch! It feels like I have BB's under my areolas. My 22 month old son has not nursed at all in a week. I really didn't think I was making much milk anymore because he was only nursing once each day. But now I've got these sore hard spots.

I should add that I have been taking Provera for 6 days (with 4 more to go) so I wonder if that could be part of the culprit?

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!

my DD is still nursing, but sometimes when we go a while like while doing errands, I get a few little hard lumps too. I usually have her nurse in a different position than usual and they go away. Also, running hot water over them in the shower helps too. If you are getting plugged ducts that should help release them-- Maybe you could try pumping a little instead if you're not nursing currently. HTH!

Thank you Brookesmom!

I knew I had a problem when I looked in the mirror this afternoon and it looked like I had 2 nipples on one side. So I massaged the bumps and lots and lots of milk came out. Some of it was clear and when I collected some of it in my sink it looked cloudy yellowish, so I guess it was getting infected. I feel TONS better after relieving those clogged ducts. I hope they don't fill right back up though.

I hope you're feeling better! I haven't been on the board all week because of a cold that lead to .... MASTITIS!

Yes, I was worn down taking care of DD and not sleeping enough. Finally I got a fever, chills and sore on my right breast... I thought I bruised it at first. Nope. Finally broke down and got my first antibiotics in 10 years yesterday and am feeling 10 times better. So, don't let yourself get an infection like I did. : I didn't think I'd get my first infection at 13 months but DD wasn't nursing as regularly w/ her stuffed nose.. fun, fun.

Often when moms got from one nursing a day to none, there is so little milk supply left, they do not get engorged.

But if you are, definitely pump or express, just to comfort. You may still have been making oz at that one feed. Gradually you will need to pump less and less. Give the milk you let out to your dd, in her food,, if you like. It is still good stuff! I highly doubt if it was cloudy from pus, if you weren't feverish. More likely fat.

The depo-provera should not have anything to do with milk still being made. If anything, it should decrease your milk.

I was just thinking that the provera might be making my breasts sore, not that it made me make more milk.

Anyway, I am feeling much much better since I expressed the milk!

Kelly, I hope you are still feeling better too!
