I was put on bedrest a few days ago and my legs are just killing me!! Esp. my knees and thighs, but my hips too. I spend the night in our waterbed, and during the day I'm on the sofa. I switch positions often from side to side, to sitting up with pillows. I use pillows between my knees. I get up to go to the bathroom and get drink of water etc (and check email) every couple of hours, and do a few leg stretches at that time.

Is there something I should be doing differently? Is it lack of circulation or maybe the med they put me on (terabutaline)?

Thanks! I just don't know how I'm going to do this for much longer with the leg pain.

Awww---

It's the inactivity and maybe some reduced circulation from staying prone. Can you try getting an eggcrate foam cushion from Target or something like that to help? Also, see if your DH can give you massages on your legs to help, or a warm bath.

When it would get really bad, I'd take a Tylenol.

Best wishes,

Darshani, you need to move your legs around even though you are in bed. Blood clots are a hazard to anyone at any age who isn't mobile. From the sounds of it you are describing joint pain (probably just stiff from not being used), but try to exercise your legs as often as you can think of it.

Leg cramps in pregnancy are normal, and hit worst usually at night when you're not moving. I know when i was on bedrest with my second, I had the most excruciating leg pains (and am fully expecting them again now that I've been put on bedrest fo rthis kiddo, too!) If you cans tomache it, nettle infusions give you calcium which helps alleviate the leg cramps, and you need to keep moving the circulation in your legs-it's tough when you are on bedrest (belive me, I know, LOL!) but try to make sure you're moving your legs often, changing their position.

Hilary , sounds like you had a lot of time to invent these things! I'm going to print this out and do them. I'm going nuts. I'm very active normally. Dd would love to fetch bean bags for me and hey, I've always wanted to learn to juggle! lol!

if you can bath warm baths are good for cirulcation. also make sure ot move your legs and exercise them atleast every couple of hours. even if you can't get out of bed. blood clots are a big deal. and is muscle loss which starts after 3-4 days of unactivity (this happened to me) and it's not only painful, but can be impossible to get the strength in your legs back ever.

move your feet and legs around really really often, I had pain last pregnancy on bedrest because of bad circulation and just pumping my feet back and forth really helped.
