Ever have a co-worker walk in on you pumping? This morning, I was in my little room, reading and pumping, already having a grumpy morning when the door open up on me. Now, I'm a very modest person and do not like being the center of attention. I didn't even enjoy my wedding because I didn't want people to focus on me-but since I was the bride, I obviously couldn't hide.
:

I hang up a sign that says "Do Not Come In--Thank you" I didn't write "please" because I didn't want someone to think it was an option, like a meeting that is ok to interupt. I'm not mad, I was at first, I just wanted to share. See if any of you have had similar experiences.

Yes, I have been walked in on many times at work. It really sucked that I never had a truely private place to pump. It was very embarassing. I was a youth librarian, and one time a coworker told a teenage by that he could go on in and talk to me! I was like "Um, no, I'm busy now!"

Another time I was pumping in my car, and a little kid peeked in the window at me and was pointing, his mother was very embarassed and was trying to get him in his car.

I am so glad that I am done dealing with that BS.

I've just been in the stall sitting on the toilet fully clothed and knew people coming in and out were wondering, "What is that honking sound over and over coming from in there?"

I swear, at times I felt like just standing out in the open and pumping with a shirt on that had a middle finger sticking up on the back!

I've never had anyone walk in on me while pumping at work, thank goodness. I might never recover from something like that.
The only embarrassing thing that has happened is I finished pumping and walked out to the kitchen to put my fresh-pumped milk in the fridge and I felt a draft ... I had left my button-front shirt completely unbuttoned and open.

This thread is making me laugh. I have my own office so I am able to lock my door, but I still get lots of knocks and "hey can I come in." When I open my door the person standing on the other side often is red faced. This makes me laugh, because the men in the office are really very embarrassed knowing that I am making mama milk.

I was an interpreter for the deaf working in an elementary school while I was pumping. I used the Kindergarden coat closet during nap time. One day a mom and her boy walked in to get his stuff because they were leaving early, and I was apologetic to the mom because her boy got a real eyefull, but she was GREAT. She said that he has seen her nursing his three younger siblings and that she often pumped, and he wouldn't think anything of it!

If only more kids were being brought up like that!

I wasn't actaully walked in on but....
When I waitressed I was allowed to use the owner's office when I pumped. One night someone was knocking. I said, "just a minute"
I heard, "Is Chip (the owner ) in there?"
me, "uh no"
Whoever it was was fiddling with doorknob but it was locked. I said "I'll be right out."
Finally the voice was gone and I got all put back together and went downstairs. As it turned out it was the other owner (he was a silent partner and rarely in the restaurnts) When he went downstairs he told the manager that he thought one of the waitresses might be up in the office fooling around with someone. When the manager told him what the truth was his face turned bright red and for the rest of the time I worked there he couldn't look right at me...

I pumped for my nephew for 16 months with #2. So, it was not uncommon for me to have to pump in odd places. There are several times when I would go in a back room at family get togethers, door closed, and someone would walk in on me. They were usually more embarrased then I was...lol. I also had my male co-teacher walk in on me once when I was pumping for #1, the look on his face was so funny. Poor guy, I do not know if he will ever be the same..lol.

This thread reminded me of myself many years ago. Actually co-worker of mine put my milk in his coffe in the morning - I was storing it in a communal fridge! Since that episode I started labeling my bottle as "breast milk, not for general use" or something like that.

I had a sign on a locked door at work, and someone knocked and I got flustered and said something like "I am using the room right now, just a moment" and a female voice said "I can see that" and then some woman I did not know unlocked the door and barged in anyway. But she left pretty quickly when she saw what I was doing.

Serves her right!

nope never had anyone walk in because i used the extra room at the work bathroom which had a curtain. since my work babyshower had got me my pump EVERYONE knew. and so i have had many interesting conversations behind the curtain and learnt to identify people by their footsteps.

since we had breastmilk disappearing a few times at work before me they actually had a small separate fridge for special occasions. and so i used that.

what i found fascinating and interesting were the men who alway asked me what i had in my hand. v. innocent questions. they clearly had no clue. esp. when they saw my pump paraphenelia. you should have seen their faces when i explained exactly what it was - it always cracked me up. apparently seeing a pump and breastmilk in a bottle is almost as embarrasing as NIP.

I just returned from pumping to find this thread--what a treat!

Luckily I've never been walked in on, but I've had a few close shaves. The room I pump in has 2 doors (both with locks) -- but one of them "gives" if you push really hard on it. Sometimes people don't realize it's locked until they've body-slammed into it. On my side of the door, I hear a thud, then swearing, then embarrassed-sounding muttering. It's pretty comical, actually.

I had this happen to me once. I work with mostly men. They're so clueless; had no idea what I was doing before one of them walked in on me. I usually had a private place to pump, but the room was locked.
So I used an empty conference room near my desk. Never used that room again. My coworker didn't talk to me the rest of the day. He was far more embarrassed than I. Hehehehe. He didn't see anything though.
