is anyone planning to, or has anyone done any sort of belly related art? like belly casts and henna and painting and stuff? i am realizing i should probably get my stuff together for making my belly cast and any other belly related art projects i want to do. i'm not sure what i want to do other than a belly cast but i want to have some fun with my big belly and not just knock it into doors and such and find it annoying.

I am planning to get some photos done when we take dd for her three year pics. Just at JC Penney's but heck, I figure it will be better than the snapshots we have of me pg with dd!

I would also like to get a henna kit and do something on my belly closer to my due date. I think it would look very cool to have henna designs on my belly for those labor/birth pics! Can anyone tell me how long henna lasts? Can I do it the first week of Oct. and expect it to last 2-3 weeks?

thats awesome dena! i think henna can last a few weeks but it will fade a lot. i have a friend who seems pretty knowledgeable about henna who i could ask, she is on vaation traveling right now but i know she is checking her email some. also check out http://www.hennapage.com/ i got great information about henna for hair color there and also was able to buy some very good quality henna at a very good price so i imagine there info on body art henna is also good.

i was a belly model at a doula training class today (so the doulas in training could palpate my tummy) and i got a lot of compliments on how round my tummy is. made me think more about tummy art and has me pondering if i want a doula or not. i could have an inexperienced doula who needs to get hours in for free and i met a really nice one at the class but i guess thats for another thread.

Well, we're off topic, but since it was your thread to begin with...

After dd's birth, I would not, personally, birth without a doula. During the birth itself, it wasn't that big a deal to have her there, though she did do the photography, which was nice, and was great at spelling the midwife and dh so that they could eat/rest and there was always someone with me.

For us, though, where our doula became priceless was when dd was born with severe meconium aspiration and had to be transferred to the NICU. I was still in the birth tub (actually passed the placenta while the emts were there) and there was no way I could get myself up and out in time to go to the hospital with dd and dh. It gave me a lot of peace of mind to know that dh, who was exhausted from being an awesome birth coach/partner, and who was in shock from seeing his first child born ill, had a professional there to help him make all the instant decisions he had to make, including vax, shots, etc. DH later said that the whole evening was a blur and he was very grateful that our doula was there to give him advice and stand by him, while he also knew I was in good hands back at our house with our midwife. Our doula also went back to our house, picked up dinner and our clothes, fed our dogs, ran a load of dirty laundry, and generally got things a little tidy so that when I came back for more clothes a couple of days later the place wasn't the scary mess we had left it in when we ran out after the birth.

So, if you can have a doula at your birth - esp. if you can get one at little/no cost! - I would totally reccommend it.

I will check out the website, too. Thanks! I am also thinking that if I have light labor for a day or so before active labor kicks in (like I did last time around), henna-ing my belly would be a nice project to pass the time! And of course there is the added bonus of the look on the nurses' faces if I have to go to the hospital for any reason.

There is a woman in my area who does belly henna, and I am planning on getting it done just before my baby shower. I'll be 36 weeks, and I thought it'd be fun

I did the belly cast and henna with my DS's pregnancy. I don't think I can afford the henna this time, but I thought it was really pretty.

I would love to do that! If I can't find someone to do it, I told dh he's going to have to.

I'm convincing dh that we are doing my belly henna. This is my last pregnancy, so last shot, and I've always wanted that done. I'm not sure what art we'll do though. So if anyone else has any ideas, I'd love to see them.

I did a cast w/ dd, so i'm definitely doing that again. i also want to do belly henna at my blessing, but am probably going to hire someone to come and do it and then do henna for anyone else that wants it.
