Anyone know what belly binding is? What it's for? Why you would do it?<br><br>
Will anyone here be doing belly binding?

I've heard of it, here's what I found. <a href="http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/postpart.html#Binding" target="_blank">http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/...t.html#Binding</a><br><br>
I may do it this time around just because this is baby #8. I remember after babies 6 and 7, it did feel like my innards had no support at all and I had a hard time breathing.

You mean in pg, during labor or pp?<br><br>
Where I work we bind mamas bellies in labor if their babe is posterior..it can help encourage them to turn. PP belly binding can help moms not feel so woozy if their abdomen is particularly stretched. Abdonimal muscles have a tendency to sperate during pg and many of us get what is called "jello belly."<br>
In pg the only reason I can think of to bind would be for symphysis pain or back pain. I used a binder with my last pg for symphysis seperation and it helped sooo much.<br><br>
HTH.

I have some sort of a separation in my abdominal muscles due to extreme polyhydramnios in my first pregnancy. (Twin acardiac) For the next 2 pregnancies I had SUCH pain from about 5 months on. With my last pregnancy my midwife suggested binding my belly, and it was SUCH a relief!! I bought a pregnancy belly band that velcroes; it's usually used to give back support but I just bound it around my separation. Oh my! I can't express how I went from agony to feeling semi-human again! I'll be binding again this time, for sure. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

I had crazy SI joint back pain the last month of my last pregnancy and couldn't walk without crying. I definately benefitted from the elastic and velcro setup!

Nevermind buying one. There was a medela one in the box of maternity clothes I got from my sisters today. I tried it on and it felt surprisingly good!

I've never used one before and don't plan on it this time around... of course that could change. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/love.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="love">

I wish I would have done this the first time around. DD stuck so far out that it really hurt to stand for long after 6 months or so. But if I would hold my belly up with my hands, it was a big relief. This time I'm ordering a support band for sure.

This is completely new info for me! You mamas are so full of knowledge. I'm soaking it all up! This sounds like it could be really helpful for me given my profession. I think I'll need all the support I can get. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

oooh, i like this one. i had one given to me for my third, it was a medela (i think) from BRU. it really didn't help at all and it looked RIDICULOUS under my clothes. plus it was uncomfortable itself, because of the material.

I have used the Bella band and the Tummy Hugger but this time I would like something a bit more sturdy! LOL<br><br>
I am working on baby #7 and things are a bit Loose around the bottom of my belly. I loose that cute roundness.
