And you still feel sexy even if your not very good at it. The class I go to is at my gym, most of the girls there are going to perform at a fair.
Anyway, I think this is a great exercise (especially for toning) and women of all shapes and sized were there.
So I'm a total newbie at this and was wondering if there were any others around here! Tell me more about belly dancing! The instructor seemed to know a lot of the dance's history, it's pretty cool. What kind of people are normally drawn to it? And how long does it take (if ever) to get good at it? I was watching some of the girls there thinking, "there is no way I can get my booty to move like that!" :LOL
I haven't taken a belly dancing class yet, but it totally excites me. As soon as I get some money I'll do it. Several of my close friends in Portland got really into it and one even travelled to do a workshop in Italy. Sounds liberating and fun!
There's a bellydancing class starting near me in July, and I am SO THERE!!! I've done some videos, and played around with it a bit, and I just LOVE it!
I have always wanted to try bellydancing. How fortunate you are to be able to take a class near you! There is a video at our library, I'm going to have to check it out. Keep working on it, I'm sure you're better than you think!
I took classes for a while at the local rec centre after I had my daughter. It was pretty fun - very low rent in a 'rec centre' kind of a way, with lots of old ladies and me (so I felt pretty hot, for a change!
)
I also totally sucked - I'd always be the only one turning in the wrong direction and crashing into everyone else...but, I wouldn't mind trying it again!
I have the Neena and Veena bellydancing dvds and I love them! Its fun but you can still TOTALLY feel it working! I dont do it as much as I should though but I do love it!
Funny that this thread was started . .. I took my first class last night. I really liked it. It's funny though . . . I really have a hard time coordinating the non-dominant side of my body. I can't wait to put it all together.
