i can't seem to find reviews on the bernina sergers so i have no clue whether one model is smoother than another etc.

anyone have experience with this company's sergers? the sewing machines are cool but that doesn't necessarily mean the sergers are so i thought i would fish around for advice.

thanks!

I have a very old bernina serger and it is on its last leg! Starting to skip stitches and doesn't sew well. I thought about getting it fixed but had the repair shop recommend that I just put the $ it would cost to fix it towards a new machine b/c it is so old!
my mom who used to be a seamstress and is a very experienced sewer says that bernina sergers are not as good as their sewing machines. I have heard good things about viking/white and about janome. HTH!

yes that does help a lot! i had a suspicion that there was a more reliable/better performance brand of serger but i wanted to double check. i do like my little bernina sewing machine a lot but wasn't sure if i should do it in the serger.

off to try and find a nicely priced janome or viking.

My husband found some decent priced sergers for me on www.allbrands.com They have the White 1934D Superlock (which a trustworthy saleswoman at my local Joann's recommended to me) for $300 with free shipping...and it was $400 in the Joann's store. I know that is still a bit of money (at least on our budget it is!) but it is a lower-priced new serger....I am trying to control myself to SAVE the money first rather than to "credit card" it!

I felt the same way. I have 3 Bernina sewing machines and just love them and when I was in the market for a serger, I automatically thought another Bernina. It did not perform as well as their sewing machines. I was not impressed. I purchased a Husqvarna Viking 936. I highly recommend them.

I am leery of White Sergers, although I have not personally owned one of their sergers I did have a sewing machine and it was a piece(of you know what). I have a Pfaff serger and it rocks! It's their cheapest model, a 4752 I think? You can usually find them on sale for around 400.00 and it's worth every penny IMO.
