Forgive me for asking 2 questions that probably have been asked many times before...I'm super short on time trying to pack my house and move with a 2 month old. We are finally moving to a place with a washer/dryer! I've been using diaper service (prefolds) and am sooooo excited to be able to switch to something like bum genius. I am leaning toward bum genius but I don't know much about the other brands...those are the only all in ones I've seen in real life. I definitely want an all in one...any thoughts? Also, which online store has the lowest prices? Thanks!

Do you mean AIO for sure? BG does make AIO's but their most common diaper is a pocket diaper.

I like the Sposoeasy AIO's the best personally. Or a WAHM-made one if you are into supporting that.

Do you know if you want velcro or snaps?

Hey Cindy!

We have some BumGenius, we're mostly using prefolds though. The BumGenius dipes are great and convenient.. the one size dipes are actually pocket diapers, but still very easy to use, just stuff the insert in and it's ready to go. They are our favorite overnight diaper right now because she can't feel the wetness as much as she can with a prefold. A lot of people also use Fuzzibunz (I think these are pockets too, correct me if I'm wrong?), which I've never personally used but have heard good things about. I like that those have snaps rather than velcro, the velcro on the BG diapers is already starting to curl so I'll probably be getting some Fuzzibunz before too long.

I'm also finding how much I like fitteds. I only bought one before she was born because I didn't know if we'd use them, but I really like them and plan to buy more in the next size up so she can wear them longer. We have Kissaluvs right now, which is great and fits her very well. I wouldn't use it as an overnight diaper though, they're not the most absorbant.

Not sure about websites to get them from, I buy most of mine from a store nearby... I spend a lot of time on diaperswappers.com lurking for good deals. If you don't mind buying gently used products, you can get some great prices from mamas on there and shipping is usually included in the prices.

I didn't realize they were a pocket. Do you have to remove the liners before you wash? I don't mind stuffing just don't want to be removing a poopy liner. I like the bum genius bc they are 1 size...I love that I can buy a bunch and hopefully use them for her until she's potty trained. Is that the only brand like that?

BG does make a OS AIO that I've read several good reviews about. You can buy them at Kelly's Closet, for sure, and I'm guessing a number of other places. I've never used them, but a couple things going for them are the fact that you can get them with snaps if you prefer (whereas the BG OS pockets only come with aplix) and they're made of organic, natural fibers.

If I had some extra $$ laying around, I'd definitely try one. They look nice and people seem to like them a lot. And even though they cost more than the BG OS pockets, they don't have stinky microfiber inserts!

You do have to remove the insert. They generally aren't poopy though- just wet. The poop stays on the pocket part of the diaper, and the pee is on the insert.

There are literally hundreds of OS options. You should probably just by one each of like 5 different kinds, and see which you like best.

BG OS AIO's now come in snap and they are my favorite diaper at the moment. The inner is organic cotton and the fit is really good on my 2 yo.

But they are $25 unless you can get seconds on cottonbabies for more like $17, I believe.

ETA:

BG OS AIO w/snaps

If you only want to try one or two, I'd order from Abbyslane.com because shipping is free.

I made my order! I visited my local shop this morning to check some out but they charge an arm and a leg. I ordered from bananapeels.com and got free shipping. I decided to try a few. I got a set of 12 AIO organic bum genius with the snaps, 3 fuzzi bunz one size pockets with snaps and 4 sposoeasy AIO in medium with velcro. I also got 2 pail liners and 15 prefolds to use as burp rags since DD spits up a ton.

How many should I have in order to wash every 3 days or so? I try to change cloth every 2 hours or so...have used sposies at night but plan to use cloth now. She sleeps a 6-7 hour stretch then another 3 hours. Maybe 8-10/day? So I may need a few more? Suppose i could use prefold if i run out before washing.

What is a wet pail and do i need one?

Thanks everyone!

My favorite pocket dipe so far (I've tried about 6-7 brands) is the TinyTush Elite. I use with snaps and it has been very durable with great fit. But with almost all pocket dipes, you do have to take the insert out before washing, and most have the opening in the back, so you do have to be careful taking the inserts out!

Mommy's Touch has one with openings in the front and back, so the inserts come out in the wash and you don't have to take them out.

Baby Kangas have a zippered opening in the front of the dipe, so your hands don't get yucky.

All of these are one-size pocket dipes.

I also I like Thirsties aio (true aio). It comes in sizes though. It comes with a sewn in soaker that works well for us during the day, but also has a pocket so if we need more absorbancy, we can always add another insert.

My favorite inserts are a combo insert with microfiber and hemp together.

You'll find that everybody likes something different depending on baby's shape, laundering routine, etc. So try a few different ones to see what you like best!

Nice buy! You will love the BG AIO. I want to try the sposoeasy.

No need for a wet pail-dry pail is so much easier but it really is preference. I think there is a sticky at the top of the diapering board on laundering, etc...my bathroom is so small I even prefer just to use the pail liner and hang it on the back of my door-some people put it into an actual pail. I just buy the kind that have the strap on it to hang.

8-10 is a good estimation-you need less as they get bigger. So more toward the 10 for when they are little and closer to 8 as they get bigger.

I'd get a few more once you find out which you like best or maybe get a few different ones. Since you are using one sizes you are going to want a bigger stash so the elastic lasts longer etc. Maybe get a few medium sized fuzzibunz as these tend to fit a lot of babes for a long time period and are trimmer than the one sizes. You could always just use prefolds on wash day if you have some covers. Although I always do my wash when babe goes down for the night as I keep her in one dipe all night. Then all my diapers except that one are clean for the next day.

I think your order looks great!

I have 14 diapers that currently fit my daughter, and it's enough that I wash every 36 hours or so, usually.

The BG OS AIOs are definitely on my list of diapers I'd like to try!

I can recommend Nicki's Diapers online site. They have free shipping on a ton of items, including pocket diapers, covers, etc. So far I have ordered a Planet Wise Wet Bag and one small FuzziBunz from them.

I, too, have been thinking about the Bum Genius dipes. I have three BG and one small Fuzzi Bunz. (plus enough prefolds/covers.) I'm going to try the BG and FB and see which I like better.

The way I see it, I can either get BG in the "one size", or buy FB in small/medium. (Most babies only need those two sizes until potty training.) It seems like the FB might be the better choice since they will have trimmer fit, and possibly the snaps will last longer than the BG velcro tabs. We'll see, I guess.

Beauchamp--you're onto something. I spent so much time looking for the perfect one size that by the time I had tried everything my daughter fit into a medium Fuzzibunz. She's worn a medium since she was five months. She's a year and the medium fits snuggly--will probably work for several more months.
