I've used California Baby, the one without any dyes or fragrance since dd is pretty fair so I have to use sunscreen & also has sensitive skin. It's a little more pricey than the others but I like it a lot & like to support smaller, more natural companies like this.

Aubrey Organics Green Tea sunblock for children. It has not parabens or other yucky ingredients. It's very thick/opaque because it contains titanium dioxide, which is a physical sunblock rather than a chemical one. I recently started mixing it with a bit of lotion in my hand to make it easier to apply.

We use Baby Magic (banana boat) SPF 50 sunscreen. It stays on very well and protects great. It is made for sensitive skin and hypoallergenic. It is waterproof also. I read it was the best sunscreen in a top 10 summer things list for kids and it recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation.

I second the California Baby sunscreen vote...DS is able to take more sun than I am before we get burned (thanks to DH's Native American genes), but skin cancer runs in my family..my sister had two cancerous moles before the age of 18. We have to be extra cautious.

We use California Baby also. My dd is very fair too and loves to spend hours outside and play with her water table and pools and even with sunscreen I was noticing she would still get slightly burned. So now I put an spf 50 sunsuit on her which covers her entire back/front, and most of her arms and legs , along with her hat, and have no worries because the sun protection is built into the suit. Plus, it's very comfortable and dries quickly. Just another option.

Oh no, that is what we have been using, and I have a huge bottle of it too! Where can you find, "california baby" sunscreen at? I have never noticed it at any of our stores where we live.

I don't use sunscreen on ds because of the evils of the chemicals but instead put him in a "solar suit" like the one One Step Ahead has. It works great, can get wet, he stays very cool and no nasty chemicals. On dd and myself, I use "Sun" chemical free by Alba Botanica. It is very much the same as the California baby but less money per ounce. The thing about chemical free suncrean is that they aren't waterproof and wash off easily in the pool but for everyday outside stuff works great on me and dd.

California Baby is a little hard to find. We have a supermarket here (Fairway)that has lots of health food/organic products & that's where I got it this year. Check in your local health food store or online.

I'll have to check out Alba Botanicals. Fairway had that too but I didn't have time to do a comparison & just picked up the California Baby since I've used in before.

Dd doesn't have one, but I think the solar suits are a great idea. I was thinking about getting one this year since we spend a lot of time outside in the summer. A friend's daughter was badly burned last year on her chest & arm (hot coffee not the sun) & she got one of these suits since the area is still sensitve & she said it works great.

I usually get whatever kid-appropriate sunblock is on sale at the health food store (we usually go to Wild Oats) or the natural area of drugstore.com. This summer, I've gotten Alba Botanicals (love it! Not too thick and has a lovely, mild floral scent), Nature's Gate (both the kid's block and the waterproof block - they're good too. Unscented and quite thick), and a Baby Blanket sunblock stick (awesome for faces).

We also use the one-piece SPF swimsuits with sleeves when swimming outdoors, and are big fans of hats for the kids, both to shade the eyes and for the sun protection.

Copertone, neutrogena, and banana boat seem to take most of the top spots. That said everything on the list looks bad - considering the only thing to get a score of below 4.5 was a lip protector. 4.5 was a Jason leg spray and the next lowest was a banana boat product.

Here's the california baby listing on that site : http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep/...prod_id=905166

ETA: looking at their better/ worst choices list -two of the of the good choices ( baby blanket) have this note attached " This product contains hydroquinone, which the CIR found unsafe for use in non-drug cosmetic products left on the skin and not immediately rinsed off. .." Shouldn't that be a big negative ? it doesn't say " hasn't been studied" it says " found unsafe"

Sorry, one more...has anyone found a good sunscreen that you can find easily in stores? I love in a smaller town and we don't have a lot here. We do have a health food store, but it is fairly small. I can always buy online, but I am thinking I'd like to replace my current products fast! Thanks again for the help!!

Hydroquinone is in their "faces" formulation but not in the other one.

I still wonder how the "faces" one could be on the safer list as stated above, but at least the "sublock for babies titanium dioxize formula spf 50+" doesn't have hydroquinone and is on the "better list".

I got my Baby Blanket at Babies R Us.

( there were three listings - two kinds of baby 50+ ) It's in the faces and the baby 50+ not in the 50+ titanium oxide formula .... yeah I'm glad one doesn't have it - not that many of the options seem all that good but with my skin I need to use a high numbered baby block on myself and DD has the same issue - if it's too bright out we may just burst into flames

ETA; it looks like you can buy the baby blanket stuff online http://www.babyblanketsuncare.com/view/8/ - I think I've seen it in B&M stores but I would have to double check.
