I will have my first baby in January and received a gift of Kissaluvs size 0 to start me out cloth diapering. For those with experience with Kissaluvs especially during the newborn stage, please share any tips or ideas! I also have lots of Nikky covers and a Bumpy. Has anyone had success with these covers? What covers did you find worked best for you?

Also, I am very tempted to try out a few Fuzzi Buns for nights. What do you think?
Thanks so much!

I never tried Nikky or Bumpy but when I used Kissaluvs on my newborn, proraps are what we used and they worked great.

And I think a few FB for night time would be a great idea for when the baby get a little older. During the newborn stage they are up so much at night anyway nursing and changing diapers that they probably won't make a difference until they are a little bigger.

We started with Kissaluvs 0 and prorap covers and I started using FB at night when she was around 6 weeks old. Like Christy said, they are up so much at night at first and you change them so often that the kissaluvs would work fine. I didn't start using FB until she started sleeping longer stretches.

I can't remember, but I am going to try to have some bumpys and some proraps w/ my KL this time. I will be using FB at night b/c I only want to deal w/ one piece, vs a dipe and a cover. I have some XS, and some smalls, and I think the XS will be great the first few weeks at night, then I will switch to smalls. I'd definately recommend getting a few AIO or pocket dipes just for the diaperbag, grandma, or times when you are in a hurry Enjoy CDing!!!!

After 3 weeks of using Kissaluvs, i can report great success! Haven't had a single leak, and we are using them day and night. I agree with the pp, I would wait on the Fuzzibunz until baby sleeps longer at night.

As for covers, we started with:
-Bumpy day cover - NB size but they seem to run a bit large. DD was 8lbs 3oz at birth and it didn't fit right for at least the first week. Now I really like it, but DH doesn't use it because he's afraid it'll leak since it doesn't feel waterproof. (it's a softer, thinner fabric)
-Prorap color size small - they're cut really small. I don't like it - it just feels more sort of plasticky to me.
- Bummis SWW, small - DH's favorite, and I like them too. No gussets, but fits snugly and I think they'll last a long time.

Now I'm moving away from PUL and into fleece, which Dh dislikes for the bulk but I like for the breathability and softness (still scared of wool, lol. )

EEkkkkkkkkk I used plastic pants, or Alexis pull on nylon pants. :

It was so much eaiser then trying to velcro or snap soemthing on top of the kissaluvs snaps.

I did that for dd's first 2 weeks.

Congrats!

I started cding when ds was 7 weeks old and he was in size 1. I liked the medium Bumpy night covers over them. I would also suggest getting a few AIOs or pockets for visiting and babysitters(even if it's just to take a shower)

I just bought a color prowrap for the next baby and I don't like the way it feels. It's too stiff IMO. Maybe it will soften up after a few washes.

Have fun cding!

Congratulations!! Great idea to have a variety. I had a bunch of different types, many the same as PPs mentioned, and they fit differently at different stages. The ones I liked best were not-fancy ones called EZWraps or something like that. A Stacinator So Simple is nice to have since it fits over everything and leaves no red marks - I would buy that in Small. You might want to shop for a few Smalls because a nb baby grows so fast, I remember ordering in a hurry when I realized I had nothing that fit!

Bumpy's work very well, and yes they run big. The premie ones will fit over the 0's well too and work great the first few weeks (even on my 8.5 pounder). Proraps, bummis, and airflows work well too.

we've been using mostly wool over the kissaluvs, but also a couple of nikkys cotton covers. all have worked great! i tried fuzzi bunz one night, but must have been sleepy during a change because i didn't get the snaps right and left a leg gap that she peed through. we've been back to kissaluvs ever since.

oh, my daughter is about 2 weeks old, and was 10 lbs 3 oz at birth. we're on the second to last snaps!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I feel better now, like I am on the right track!
I'll start with a variety and then see what works for us.
Cheers.
