Does anyone have an opinion on the best covers to use with pre-folds? We currently use Diaperaps because they are inexpensive and 100% cotton or hemp. However, the velcro tab gets curled up after a few washes and irritates his chubby little thighs. He is about to start crawling and I"m nervous it will get much worse. He has almost grown out of the Medium-size and before I order more, I'd like to see if anyone is happier with a different brand.

if you snappy/pin, then I like wool/fleece covers the best, because they seem to have a larger coverage area so nothing peeks out at wierd spots. Plus they are softer and dont irritate.

I use knit wool covers pretty much exclusively w/ DD2 (all but one hand knit). But I've also been toying with the idea of buying a So Simple (by Happy Heiny's) to test because the legs look so comfy and I've heard great things about them. My biggest issue as well is the way covers seem to generally wear funny in that they either rub / irritate when they shouldnt or else they dont cover very well.

I haven't used snappis or pins yet because so far the diaper stays where I put them when I close the cover. If you use wool covers can you wash them right along with the diapers?

You have to hand wash wool covers in a special wool wash, you can't just put them in the washer with diapers. Wool is wonderful if you don't mind the care! I love hand knit soakers, turned and topstiched covers like Elbee and pull on covers like Luxe.

As far as covers, if you like to tri fold you can try Bummis and I have also liked LiteWraps inexpensive and really full coverage) and Motherease Rikki wraps. Of late I have fallen in love with So Simples. They are really soft and I love that my NB doesn't get red marks from them. From here on out they may be the only PUL covers I buy!

Wool must be washed separately from the diapers.

If you're looking for wraps that you can lay a prefold into without using pins or a Snappi, my favorite covers are Bummis (Velcro and snap), Blue Penguin wrap 'n snap, and Mother-ease Rikki Wrap.

Other covers that other people like include Proraps and Thirsties.

We use prefolds and Bummis Super Whisper Wraps w/velcro. I love them. We never have leaks. My guy has super chubby thighs too and they sometimes leave a mark, but he doesn't seem bothered at all.

I only use wool. Love the wool!

Otherwise I would use Thirsties...which is why I finally broke down and started carrying them in the store. I just really loved the wool...but not everyone does.

When we were using prefolds my absolute hands down favorite cover was the Crystal's Cloth Procare. NEVER ONCE did I have a leak or blowout with that thing! I was amazed! We now use fitteds so we use fleece pull on covers which I love because they let air in and hint at you when you LO is wet without soaking them. If you're interested in breathability I'd try fleece or wool, if you're only interested in protection try Crystal's cloth!
http://www.crystalscloth.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=46
