Hello Austin Mamas!

I know many of you home school (I just don't have it in me), but our family is moving to Austin from NYC. We would like to find a very hands on -learn by doing kind of school that doesn't rely on worksheets and sitting at a desk most of the day. I've done some internet research and so far it seems - Zilker, Barton Hills, and Brentwood might be up our ally. Both of my sons are very active and may require special services (PT, OT & Speech), but I want them to be in an inclusive environment. Having lived in NYC, I can't imagine living way out in the burbs where I am completely car dependent and isolated, but if there is a greenbelt nearby that might balance things out with easy access to outdoor space. I'm really looking forward to the move. I'm originally from Dallas, but can't imagine living there so Austin seems like a nice choice for us. I just want to find a good area, rent a cute little house, grow a vegetable garden, maybe raise a couple of chickens and expose my kids to some green!!

I realized how over NY I am last week on a windy day when my children were making up games with the litter blowing down the street. While I admire their creativity, this was not what I had in mind for them!

If anyone has any insight into the school system and/or great communities, I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks
