Hello! A friend of mine recently gave birth when she was seven months pregnant. Luckily, baby is doing very well and came home yesterday. The baby is about 4lbs 8oz now. So, I have a few questions...

Are slings okay for such a little baby or does the baby need to be a bit bigger? What sling would be best for my friend?

I never used a sling, but my sister does and I love slings now but I'm hardly an expert on them. I'd like to get one for my friend but really am clueless. My main concerns are that it be okay for such a little baby and that it be easy to use, as my friend has never slinged and it's not like I'll be a huge help at figuring it out.

hi my dd was 1lb bigger than ur friends but i used the mayawrap and it was great
she hated the cradlle position but loved to be up where my heart is, chest to chest

maybe if she gets a small size she wont have to worry abt all that extra fabric''

My dd came home from the hospital at 5 lbs 9 oz, and we started using a Kangaroo Korner Fleece Pouch shortly after that. I liked that the stretchy fleece held her snug against me and it was very easy to use. When she was tiny, we mostly did chest to chest position. Of course, she was a winter baby so the fleece was great, don't know where your friend lives. As she got bigger, I found I liked our Maya Wrap as well or better.

We didn't sling from day 1 because she was in the NICU 3 hours from home and I didn't have one with me but we "kangaroo'd" all the time skin to skin, me holding her with a blanket over us both. The benefits of "kangaroo care" are well-documented in the medical literature and don't stop once you leave the hospital! Using a sling is one of the best things your friend can do for her baby!

Our little guy was 4 pounds 9 ounce when he came home and he loved our New Native Carrier. We used it so much we ended up getting another so we could also keep one in the car. We did put a little pillow under him so he didn't scrunch down to far in it. As I said, he loved being in his sling, and I loved having him so close!!
