Hi, I'm knew to babywearing. I have a hotsling which seems too small for my 3 month old. Anyway was looking for something like an Ergo that is lightweight since we live in FLorida. Any ideas? Also, what are some good carriers for DH to wear?

Thanks

The Yamo is an SSC that is very lightweight. In terms of weight and amount of fabric, the Beco (IMO) would be next light, with the Ergo following after.

Consider a mesh carrier. I know that some mamas have successfully made mesh ringslings. I know where you can get mesh Chunei.

If you're willing to learn how to tie and wrap, try a 'selendang.' It's an indonesian wrap, great thin/breathable material. Look up "help us give slings" to buy a selendang and help a worthy cause.

I was thinking there are a few MTs and SSCs made out of solarweave/solarveil (I don't remember which) that might work for you. I *think* Sachi has a solarweave MT and I think Connecta will be making solarwhatever SSC closer to summer.
Here is a link for the Sachi MT: http://www.mycomfykid.com/water.htm
Good luck!
The "problem" with structured carriers, mei tais, etc, is that baby is right up against your body, which makes for a hot experience all round. We have an Ergo, in a light color, and it's pretty cool (at least it's open at the sides so a breeze can sneak in), but having that hot little body up against you is pretty warm. At that age (or maybe a little later) we started doing kangaroo carry in our pouch, which was much cooler.

We still love our Ergo, though! It's hot...but sooo comfortable!

I am in FL. Honestly I dont wear baby outside in the summer for any length of time. Just being up close to each other is going to be hot. But generally we are outside in the mornings and evenings and its not so bad. During the heat of the day we are inside anyway.
