My Daughter (12) broke her femur two weeks ago and has been in a spica cast (Armpits to toes on her bad leg, and to her knee on her good leg) since then.

She's been suffering constipation because of her meds, so she's been put on stool softeners. But now it's gone the other way and it's led to her soiling the cast.

We've tried airing it out and cleaning it as much as possible, but the padding was really absorbent so liquid has soaked in and it's still clearly soiled/smells a fair bit.

Obviously she is mortified at this all and it's become quite the problem. We've talked to the doctor about this and she is unlikely to get a new cast unless it endangers her, so she's stuck with it for six more weeks.

How on earth do we clean this thing???
