Beta didn't double?

2978 Views 21 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  calihannah
I had my first Beta at 12dpo and it was 28.3. I went back in today for a second beta and it went up to 40.1. I am so upset. Everyone said don't worry, all that matters is that it doubles or goes up 66%. It did neither! They want me to come back in on Friday for another one because "we like to see it at 100 before we schedule a sonogram"

Not sure how many dpo you where on the second beta but hcg takes longer than 24 hours to double usually.

For HCG levels <1,200mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is 48-72 hours.
For HCG levels 1,200-6,000mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is 72-96 hours.
For HCG levels >6,000mIU/ml, the expected doubling time is >96 hours.
I was 12dpo on Monday, 14 dpo today. So 48 hours...

You could be one that has 72 hour doubling time
Dont give up hope yet

Every pregnancy is different, so try not to give up hope yet. I'm not sure what they would expect to see on u/s with an hcg of only 100 though. Usually they want you at least 2000 or so to expect to see anything.

But anyways, hoping for you that your next number is way up there.

I'm betting that, like MCatLvrMom2A&X, you are one of the 72-hour doublers. I'm kind of surprised they scheduled the second draw after only 48 hours, to be honest. When I had quantitative draws with my first two daughters, they scheduled me to come in after 72 hours. I'm sorry they didn't explain to you that they might be doing the second draw too early for you to see a really good result.

Thanks ladies. I'm not going to stress about the numbers any more. I'm keeping zen. I called the nurse and told her I would not be coming in on Friday for another draw, but would happily come in on Monday if they still insisted. I told her I am refusing to stress out over something I can't control anyway. So for now I'm just going to enjoy being pregnant!!

Sounds like you are in a good place. When so much is mystery and beyond control, zen mind is a great respite...

Good for you
There is so much that we can worry about durring pregnancy and so little that we can actually do about it. I think that a lot of these routine tests cause a lot of undue worry.

to you mama and enjoy your pregnancy!

crashing, with my last pregnancy (twin pregnancy). I didn't double in the time I was "suppose" to. I was even lower then yours is now. It took forever, but I found out I was having twins.

It was the same way with this one (also twins). Some twin pregnancies go slow in the beginning and some are huge..I am sure its the same with singletons. I am currently pregnant with twins again and they are super healthy at 20 weeks. Keep your chin up!
My betas went down to 3 yesterday (19dpo), and I started AF in full force today. The RE says it was a chemical. New protocol this cycle (adding injectables), hopefully I'll make the November DDC anyway, but if not wishing you ladies the happiest and healthiest 9 months ever
