hey, i know of this guy. he's on a biodiesel list i'm on and i think this will probably be the impetus to get the laws changed. the dept of revenue has already said they don't want him to have to pay the bond. it's just an old law that hasn't kept up with the times. there's a state legislator who also runs WVO in his VW beetle TDI and sports a bumper sticker about it. a similar situation happened in illinois and they just collected the back fuel tax (about $86 bob reports in his case) rather than have the driver post an additional $2000 bond. bob is all for that, but there just isn't a mechanism in NC for paying the road tax (which is included in commercial gas and diesel) for WVO or homebrew biodiesel. i expect this flood of interviews and articles will start the ball rolling. if anybody is interested in reading more i can send more links.

well, the word is that MSNBC is going to interview him and a local radio station WPTF supposedly did this morning although i can't find anything on their site about it. the story in the charlotte observer got picked up by the AP so it's all over the place now. here are a few links to what a few bloggers and others say about it, but most of the other links i had were just to the same story in a different paper. sorry.

bob reports that he's going to be interviewed by NPR's marketplace, too. he said he's also been in touch with the NC State Senator who drives a biofuels vehicle and he's very supportive of introducing legislation to fix this.
