I don't get it! Can it be true that Moslem women were offended that the bfing woman was exposing her breast? I don't believe it...

I was under the impression that everything needed to be covered but nursing breasts weren't an issue.

That is so odd. Unless she was topless or something, I can't imagine why they would do a thing like that.

Dh is from Ethiopia and I don't think he'd believe that story if I told him. Breastfeeding is normal there especially in rural areas.

Is it possible the incident had more to do with the woman being a Westerner and/or part of a Christian organization than with her "exposure"?

It sounds to me like there is more to the story...I am Muslim and have had contact with Muslims from many different countries and none of them have ever expressed any discomfort with me nursing.

And yes, in the Quran, Allah encourages all mothers to breastfeed for two years.

That does sound odd because as previously pointed out, breastfeeding is encouraged in Islam. National Geographic once published a photo of an Egyptian woman in full hijab breastfeeding her baby as she walked down the street. Only part of Her visible was her breast.

Maybe it was that mom's face they were objecting to? (slightly facetious)

Ummmmm.....no matter whether she was bf'ing or not it's totally uncool that they were throwing stones at her period, let alone while she was carrying her baby!

Sadly, this woman was probably stoned because she was "western." What makes it doubly worse is that she was an aid worker. Essentially, the people she was trying to help were attacking her.

How is it ok for a muslim woman to NIP in Ethiopia but a western woman is stoned if she does the same thing? Sad.
