I need help with a decision. My DS is 8.5 months old, 22 pounds. Right now I use prefolds with snappi closure and Prorap PUL covers for home everyday use and I have 7 BG's for use when we go out and at night. He is just about to outgrow his medium proraps. I originally did not go with all BG's because of the expense, and at the time prefolds/proraps were fine for us. But now he is so wiggly that changing his diaper even with a one-step dipe like BG or a sposie is difficult--the prefold, snappi, cover process is near freakin' impossible. Even the song-and-dance routine I've perfected only works about half the time nowadays. In addition, he is so active now that it's hard to change him quite as often as I used to, so I'm feeling like the stay-dry feature of the BG's is more of a consideration now. So instead of buying the next size proraps and later on, toddler or premium size prefolds, I am thinking of just springing for the full time stash of BG's. My questions are:

--Are BG's good for bigger kids? If he's 22 pounds at 8.5 months, is he likely to outgrow them while he's still in diapers (they supposedly go to 35 pounds?)

--I saw on a post once that when BG's are on the biggest setting, the unused snaps can rub on the child's legs and cause irritation. We have not had this problem yet, but of course he is not walking. How many people have had this problem?

--any other thoughts on this?

Thanks!

My DS fit well in BG OS till about a few months ago (he'll be three in Aug) when he was about 30 pounds. Though he does have a chunky butt and has to wear larger than suggested weight amounts in diapers. Keep in mind that your DS will probably slim down a bit as he gets more active, so even though he is 22 pounds now, he won't outgrow the BG before you recoup your expenses in, say, sposie usage (or your sanity for diaper changes!).

I really like the fit and trimness of the BG, and never had a problem with the snaps irritating DS's legs as he ran around. The bottom snaps were really low in his crotch, but they ended up sorta folding into the fabric so they didn't rub against him.

My DS is about 35 lbs and 20 months. He has been wearing BG 1.0 since he was 5 months and he has been on the middle snap setting the entire time! They fit him differently now than they did then, because he is proportioned differently, but they still fit well, and I expect they will fit him for a good while longer.

My friend just gave me someof her BG because her son at 21 months and almost 30 lbs can't fit in them anymore. I sure your ds will slim down some, too.

I'll be below sposie price no matter what I do....I want an economical option relative to other CD options....so what do people use if their kids are outgrowing BG 2.0's at around 30 pounds? Are the BG AIO's largest size bigger than the 2.0s?

Pretty much all OS diapers I've seen go to 35 lb max. With BG, the AIOs actually have a lower weight range- the L goes to 30 rather than the OS that goes to 35. What fits my DS (with growing room) are loveybums XL, HH XL, and FB L (surprisingly good fit for his big butt!). Of those, only the HH have velcro, though.

If you are planning on more babies in the future, I would probably go with the BG OS since you like it and it would be used for a long time. Even if you bought other pockets or AIOs for your DS, you would still have to size up again past the same range that the BG OS goes to.

My 27 month old is 36 inches and about 35 pounds and the BG 2.0 work just fine for him. Our biggest issue with them is that he can easily take them off. We are also using them on our 3 week old who is 8lbs 14 oz and just over 21 inches. They leaked on him initially, but now are working really well.
