i'm having a heck of a time getting my DD on my back in our BH onbu. i can't figure out where to tie! youtube isn't helping much, either. i do a "santa toss" while holding the straps, then loop them straight down into the rings, up across the back and then what? tie in the front or in the back? i had her kind of high, so that the straps would naturally sit right under my chest if i tie in front but that can't possibly be right, can it? if i tie in the back, should i go under the butt or mid-back? she's 5 months old.

sorry, i know this is a pain without any pictures but i'm just confused. all the pictures i've seen look like they tie in front at the waist, but mine just don't go down that far. they slip up under my boobs.

Okay...lemme try to explain to you what to do.

An Onbu is diff than a Mei Tai and is tied slightly differently. OK. Doing the santa toss is the *perfect* way to get dc up in an Onbu-also an Onbu tends to be worn higher than a Mei Tai-generally. My son is 5 months as well, but ive worn him in an Onbu since he was 3 weeks.

You dont need to bring the straps anywhere behind or under the baby just through the loops-thats it-like a back pack and then take the ends and tie how ever you choose-Rucksack. i.e. knot at navel, knot above busom or a Tibetian Tie finish. I prefer the rucksack with the knot above busom.

Okay 1st take a look at this page...yes its in japanese but shows various ways of tieing at the chest. Its pretty self-explanatory and easy to follow.

Now...here r some pics I took a few days ago.

First picture is after ive gotten him up, i put the straps through the loops.
then I pull them taunt infront of me and the stand up straight.

The key to comfort with an Onbu is bouncing the baby up to a high back carry.
I normall hold the straps taunt w/ one hand, am bent over a tad, use other hand on babies bottom to secure him and gently bounce him up.

These r pics of how I tie...I prefer a ruck, knotted above the busom...it leaves ALOT of strap left hanging which I just leave. if I need to get it out of the way i'll fold the extra strap under or something like that.

Seriously...thats it! An Onbu is...in my opinion a *much* faster back carry becos you only hafta worry about looping through the straps and voila..ur 90% done.

Incase ur curious, im using a Japanese brand Onbu which is a wee bit diff than an American made one...but they pretty much the same.

Hope this helps!
Pls feel free to PM me if you have more Q's.

Yup!

American made Onbu's have a similar size and strap size as American made Mei tai's. They tend to be bigger and wider.

Japanese ones tend to have a smaller, narrower body and usually come with a snap in head rest-like what I have up in the picture. Also, the straps tend to be a bit on the narrow side and less padding.

I havent used an American Onbu yet...but am hoping too..I am curious to see how different they feel. I do really love the Onbu's I have and find them sooo versitile and comfy!

hey, post a pic of u using the Onbu! I am eager to see that u got it down!!!
