Me!

Mainly if I'm hunched over into a weird position...or if little boy is getting crazy in there!

Whew! Glad it's not just me! I'm get them a lot! Whenever I stand up, or eat, or drink something cold, or sit down, or get excited..... my uterus tightens right up.
I might have had a single one, a few weeks back.
I'm already convinced I'm never going to go into labor.

I didn't really ever have any while pregnant with Ds with this guy it is all the time! I wasn't sure what it was and I poked my belly and it was extra hard so I knew then that it was a BH

could you even imagine never going into labor and carrying around a 2 year old in there

I am happy to hear I am not the only one I get scared around this time in pregnancy of an early delivery so that is reassuring that it seems to be the normal thing around now!

I never really got them with DS and so far I don't think that I have really had any now. I want some!
I think so... but at the same time I really have no idea
. This being my first pregnancy I'm not sure if they are BH's or what. I've read about them and read what people have said about them(from when I posted), but I can't really pinpoint if this is what they are or not. Either way it's often but not too frequent.

I am with you on the BH. I have them all the time and regularly, and they are getting stronger as time goes on. Not painful; I know they aren't dialating my cervix, but I like that my uterus is practicing.

I didn't have any noticeable ones with DS - I think they are less frequent with first babies as opposed to subsequent ones. The uterus has lots of oxytocin receptors that are responsible for signalling the uterus to contract. They get 'turned on' in the first pregnancy and are primed to do their work in subsequent pregnancies. Hence, other-than-first pregnancies will tend to have more BH activity.

I notice it when I am walking up hills and sometimes if I am spending too much time carrying DS around - he's not that heavy for a 2 year old, but he's heavy enough, and he still loves to get in front of me, block my way, and say, "Carry you?" I wish, little man, I wish... (OT, but sweet) We're still working on pronouns. When he wants up, it's "Carry you?" and when he wants down, it's "Down me!"

They've been pretty consistent for me since about week 20. I get few to several a day. I don't remember feeling them with ds until the final weeks. I think it's true you feel them more often and earlier with subsequent pregnancies.
I hadn't had many till today- suddenly I am having them randomly throughout the day. The only time my belly has ever been firm!

This is my first pregnancy and I've had then since 20 weeks (am now 27) and they are getting more frequent. But then, I'm also drinking RRL tea everyday.

Sometimes they freak me out a bit. Should I be worried?
my midwife told me today to count them if I was worried. Any more than six in an hour and talk to your hcp. Otherwise, they are perfectly normal.
I wouldn't even have any clue what I would be feeling for. Does extra "padding" inhibit them???
Hi Laura,
I think you will definitely be able to tell a Braxton Hicks when you feel it...your uterus hardens from the inside. Sometimes, it is the whole uterus, and sometimes it is just a spot here and there. During my first pregnancy, I don't think I felt anything until the last few weeks.

I get BH all the time, starting early in this pregnancy. I like to practice breathing and relaxing while I get them. Mine most often happen while I am walking up a hill, or doing something active. Or, when I suddenly get upset or excited. I do like the BH, because it is like a warm up for the main event!
I have a lot and I'm drinking TM pregnancy tea.
It's exciting to me because I am trying to visualize my uterus working out and getting ready for labor. It's really important for me to go into labor on time if not a little early because I'm a VBA2C and I'm hoping the tea will help make my labor productive, etc...and avoid any mention of a repeat C section!
I'm having a lot of them. They don't hurt, but they make me feel tired. It's like running around the block or something. I don't remember ever having them (or understanding what they were) with dd.
Yup, having lots. Especially when I am on my feet all day long at work

i had lots with my first pregnancy beginning around month 5. This time, i felt them earlier around month 4.

They are definitely uncomfortable and when I have one I immediately have to go to the bathroom b/c the pressure makes my bladder feel like its about to explode.

My midwife is concerned about them b/c she said that too many bh in one hour (more than 5) is a pre-indicator for preterm labor. I say that's hogwash, based on all the studies I've read, most of which conclude that bh are not an indicator of early or effective labor. Basically, the studies that are out there contradict one another and they can't decipher what they want to decipher!
At one point, my midwife even mentioned that if I keep having them she might have to put me on bedrest. Yeah right. That'd eat up all of my FMLA and I'm not going on bedrest for what you "think" could happen. She also recommended a test that would give me an idea of my chances for preterm labor (can't remember what it was) but i declined. Since I declined, she sent me for an u/s to make sure that there wasn't too much fluid around baby (since I am also measuring 3 weeks ahead) and to make sure my cervix was still closed. Everything was fine and I honestly think she's just a worrywart. I had so many bh's with my dd that I don't think they're the least bit worrisome.

I had a very effective labor with my dd but I am inclined to think maybe it's a coincidence considering that I know many women who had long/intense labors who also had many many bh's.

I am trying to hydrate myself a little better since I've found that the less water I drink in a day, the more I have.
