DS is two and a half months, happy, healthy, and about 18 pounds!
He was 10 pounds 1 ounce at birth and is completely and only breastfed.

Anyone else have a big baby?

My first two were much more average. I am wondering what to do about his carseat because I don't know if he will fit in a rear-facing one for a full year..? We get tons of compliments on him and it is nice to have such a healthy and big little guy.

My first doubled his birth weight by 10 weeks. It was actually quite funny because my dh and I are on the small side. People would see my ds and I and say, "Your husband must be a big guy!" Little did they know... :LOL
Congrats on your healthy babe! My dd is 4 weeks and is gaining at about the same rate as my first, but started out 1 1/2 lbs. heavier! (Not close to 10 lbs. though- tough mama!)
Anyway, even 2 and 3 year olds can rear-face so that shouldn't be a concern for you. They just bend their legs in.

Yup. My big boy just started slowing down (still EBF). He's now 22 lbs at 5 months, at 6 weeks I think he was 15 lbs, born at 9 1/2. As for carseat we have a Britax Marathon, GREAT for big babies. My parents bought it, it's definatly expensive!

You can get a convertible seat that will rear face to 40lbs.

DS#1 was 10lbs 10ounces at birth and 14 1/2 lbs at is 8week check and 19 1/2 lbs at his 6month check. Now he's 2 and close to 40lbs, not overly big, but very tall.

DS#2 was 8lbs 14ounces at birth, so I was thinking he's a peanut. Little did I know he would grow 2lbs 6oz in 2weeks, and was at 11lbs even at his 2week check (he lost 4oz). He's surpassing his brother for weight now when you account for him starting smaller. I know he's still growing like a weed, but won't know if he's still keeping the pound a week trend until next week.

Hooray for big babes! I think they're very cuddly, but do sigh when I put the cute baby clothes away so quickly as he grows out of them.

Mine was 9 pounds at birth, 18 pounds at 3 months, and 29 pounds at a year. She was 20 inches when she was born, so not very tall, although she got taller later.

Everyone said that her gross motor skills would be delayed because she was so rounded, but she crawled and cruised furniture at 6 months, and took her first steps a day or two after she turned 8 months. She also had a ton of hair... on her first Halloween she was 9 months old, walking well with a head full of curls, and everyone guessed her at 18 months or more.

She stayed big. At 11 she's 5'5" and and about 125 pounds.

Neither her dad nor I are especially big - he's average, I'm a couple inches above - but we both grew early.

I've been a lurker for quite a while now - this is my first post. :

DS was 9lbs at birth 20.5 in.
6 day checkup he was at 13 lb
10 weeks - 20 lb
17 weeks - 24+ lbs - he's slowing down!

So what do you think makes them so big? Purely them and their genetics or do you all have an abundant milk supply. Not seeing what other mothers produce I don't know how it compares, but it seems like I have PLENTY of milk and he took to nursing right away.

When people ask me how often he feeds I'm almost a little self conscious about the fact that its often more than every two hours, but then I figure he's been going through a 4 month growth spurt so of course he eats a lot. He's a snacker.

He's also (and people tell me this is standard for big babies) pretty mellow and happy. I feel blessed all around. It did kill my back for the first 2.5 months though, and it's a challenge to carry him around for very long. I'm going to start looking into the more traditional wrapping techniques (a la www.mamatoto.org) and use a two shoulder strap style.

Someone just gave us the CUTEST little outfit, but he's about a month past being able to wear it. He's in either 12M or 18M clothes depending on the maker. What have you all found to put your big babies in? I don't like "grownup" clothes on him and have been searching for good footie pajamas.

I could go on and on.

My youngest was just under 9 pounds at birth, 16 pounds at 2 months, 19 pounds at 3 months, 24 pounds by 6 months and is now 10 months and "only" 25 pounds. He slowed down quite a bit around the time he got mobile.

Yup, got a biggun' here too!
Ds was 9lbs 15oz at birth and by 2 months was 16lbs +. He was 20lbs just before his 4 month bday. He started to slow down a bit at 6 months. He's now 8 months and 25lbs. Really long too. I'm barely 5'1'' and small framed, and ds is 5'10'' or so about 160. No 6 footers on either side of the family.
Go figure!
I love his chubby butt...
(ds's chubby butt that is, not dh's. Uh, I mean I love his butt too but it's just not chubby )

My Kylie is a BIG girl! At birth she was 2.5 weeks early and was 8lbs 2ozs. That's not huge, and she gained weight slowly at first (after losing over a pound). By 1 month of age she was gaining a pound a week. She did that for about 4-5 months!

At 6 months she weighed 27lbs 12 ozs. She's 7.5 months now and I'm not sure what she weighs. She's started moving around some, so she's leveling off. However, she hasn't figured out how to crawl so she rolls wherever she wants to go. Its so cute

She is still almost exclusively breastfed. She takes a taste of food every couple days, but isn't too interested yet. I'm hoping she will hold off until she's over a year before eating too many solids. My Dh has a few obese family members and he is obese. I'm not worried about her current weight effecting that, but I figure its better to be on the safe side.

It's great to hear about the other big babies! DS is the only one I know IRL! :LOL

Both DH and I are pretty small people, I am only 110lbs when not pregnant!

I am sure I would gotten a c/s if I had had DS#2 in the hospitial. When I had DD (6 lbs) at home she came right out after two pushes in our bathtub. With DS#2 (10 lbs) I was all over the place and had to work so hard to get him out! My MW and DH kept encouraging me to push and I was trying so hard- it just took a lot to get him out!!! His birth had me wore out for days and days, where I was fine minutes after having DD.

Now at 2 months, he wears a lot of 12-18 months clothes, but can still wear some 6-9 months, depending on brand.

He nurses all the time...

My guy isn't as big as some of the other babies on this thread, but he also started out alot smaller. He was 6lbs 10oz at birth and is now 19.5 lbs at 6 months. He weighs what ds1 did at 12 months, so to me he is a whopper.

It's funny, when I just had ds1, I thought petite babies were the cutest and now I think the opposite. Guess you love what you have.
