I have a friend looking for a midwife and the one I suggested is not available. I was wondering which midwives other mama's have used and what you thought of them. Did you have a good birth experience and would you use the same midwife again? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

She was going to go with Roxanne, but she won't be available at the time. I have friends who have had their babies with April and have heard really good things about her. I told her to give her a call.
I am just trying to get more of a list for her because she is due in a few months so she might not have many options because the midwives might already have other mamas due around the same time.
Anyone else know others to get in contact with?

hi there. i just recently had roxanne at my hb. she was great & i would reccommend her to anyone looking if she were doing it right now. my dd birth was perfect , i could not have asked or wanted anything more from it with roxanne.
i am not familiar with any of the other midwifes on the island.
best of luck

Which side of the island is your friend on?

On the Hilo side there is also Nina and Gaishda (Martha), as well as Jackie, who is a naturpath. They are all great in different ways. I used to be Roxanne's apprentice and I've worked with both Nina and Gaishda.

Nina is more experienced and really gives a lot to her clients. Gaishda is the same way, though she hasn't been practicing for as long.

Most importantly, IMO is to find the mw your friend "clicks" with.

Thank you all for your replys.
We live in North Kohala. My friend will be meeting with April today, so I am really hoping that she likes her. I will keep you all posted.
Malama- you said that you used to be Roxannes apprentice. Are you wanting to become a midwife yourself? I am really fond of Roxanne. She was my midwife for ds and is again for dc due in December.

April is really cool, I hope your friend clicks with her.

I am on a path to becoming a mw myself, and apprenticed with Roxanne for 3 years before I got pregnant with my 18month old and stopped working. It'll likely be awhile before I come back to it, as it's really intensive and hard on the family- and esp a little kid. someday!

I did get to attend a bunch of births up in your area. it's beautiful there!
