I am looking for the yarn you used to see in the 70's early 80's..the really thick, big, cable type yarn(if I am using the right verbage). I want to use it for DD's pony tails.
Where can I find this?
TIA!

Wow.

I know exactly what you mean.
I used to wear those in my hair back then.
They came in packages of like 6 colors and the yarn was like 12 inches long and in bright colors.

Have you looked in dollar stores?

I'd be happy to check next time I hit my local Dollar General.
They usually have stuff like that.

I only have boys so I don't usually go by the hair accessories aisle.

I've seen it in the ribbon section at Michaels, for wrapping presents and such. Man, serious memory flash you just gave me - I think I had that yarn for my hair in every color of the rainbow!

Nah, I've got that exact yarn in about 3 different colors and it's not what we used to use back in the 70's and 80's. It's WAY thinner.

looks like you can "find stores" or order a catalog on the lion brand site.

(and this is another reason it's a good thing I don't have girls... the poor things would be wearing this yarn in their hair tomorrow)

I have some of the Lion Brand Big and it is very similar to the stuff from years ago except it is a better quality! I have purchsed it at JoAnn's, Michael's, and Hancock Fabrics so maybe try their online stores!

Good luck!

Good! I think that you are really going to love it - it is really soft and the colors are really vibrant! I have plans to make a scarf but will be using the left overs for pony tails as well!

Are you talking about phentex? I've never seen it used in hair, but all of the big-yarn-really scratchy baby cardis and stuff my great grandmas crocheted for me are out of phentex.
