I am trying to lose the extra baby weight I have since having Hope and just bought a new woman's bike and am finding my butt (specifically my butt bones) and other parts are quite sore.
: It's rather frustrating but I'm guessing it's because my body has changed significantly since having kids. Does anyone share this frustration?

I've been looking at bike seat and bike seat covers and am wondering if anyone has any experience with these products?

So far the Easy Seat I or II look good. I really want to lose this weight before Hope is 20 years old!!! The sooner the better!

What seats have you tried? Do you have any tips for me?

Thanks.

It takes several rides to get your butt used to the seat. Generally, after a week of 3-4 rides in the beginning of the season it finally stops hurting.

Padded cycling shorts can help a little bit, but you still have to 'break in' your behind.

Generally, if you find that your bum is sore when starting a ride - just stick with it because after 5-10 minutes you won't notice it anymore.

We'd gone for a bike ride that night, maybe 15 minutes long, and argh my butt hurt all the next day!!! Standing and sitting, only laying down didn't hurt. It turned out that I had my husband put the seat down too forward because the last time it was tilted towards the back too much and hurt me that way. OUCH!!!!!!!!
: My poor butt!!!!!

I am going to look at the different bike stores around here and see what I can find for a padded gel seat. Talking to a friend she said the gel seat works amazingly. I hope so. I want to lose my extra baby weight (at least some of it!!) before the cold weather is upon us again. I just want to make sure I get the correct seat!!!!!!

Padded biking shorts and a new seat.

I recently got my 12 speed tuned up, after not riding it for 7 years. (I've been riding my mtn. bike which has a nice gel seat.) Anyway, when I got on it to ride, I was surprised at how hard the seat was. Very small, and basically felt like a rock with a piece of cloth over it. I have no idea how I used to ride it everywhere, before I had a car.

Anyway, I went to the bike shop and got a gel seat. It is a kind designed especially for women (they have a men's version as well), and there are 3 different kinds of seats depending on the type of bike and at what angle you will be sitting. I love it!

the bike shop should also be able to setup the seat so it fits you just right.

avoid covers, they are junk. they break down quickly, don't do much and can actually make your ride harder.

go to a bike shop and have them help you find a seat. get one that is womens specific. have them put it on your bike and adjust the angle etc. it all makes a difference. My favorite br4and is Selle Royale. they use a differnt sort of cusion that absorbs shock without being bouncy. there is so much technology in this area it will make your head spin but it is the number one reason people stop biking (that and a bike that does not fit properly, which leads to an uncomfortable ride)

also look into a good pair of womens shorts. I am not a fan of sdpandex or walking around in bike clothes. I have a slightly larger pair of pants I wear over the spandex. however there are some cute options including loose shorts and skorts. expect to drop some money on these though. our basics start at about $50 when not on sale. our good ones go for about $85. but they will make all the difference. if you wear them. and be sure you get women specific. this is so important. seat and shorts. we are not shaped like men and they address completely different things. and there is no such thing as unisex. if it says unisex it was designed for a man.

Absolutely take the bike to the bike shop and have them install the saddle and adjust it properly. They may also spot other fit issues while they are doing this. Some shops will give offer a trial period for saddles. Terry, a catalog company, offers this. Big squishy saddles are comfy for about 10 minutes, then they start to cause problems you didn't have before. These are not the answer if you intend to cycle for fitness.

Honestly, it does take your bum a while to "break in". I am an active cyclist, and I still go through a break-in period after a season off. It passes. Shorts with a good chamois are worth it. Look for them on sale, you can often find an entry-level pair for $30 or so.

I hope this gets more comfortable for you and you can really start to enjoy the wind in your hair!
