I am in NH and looking for somewhere to safely bike with my kids. I will have a 5 yr old with training wheels and a 2 yr old in a trailer. I have been searching online and all I find is lists of mountain bike trails. I need pavement or almost like pavement conditions. No or very limited roads. Does this exist? My local bike shop said go to the state park parking lot. Other then that he had no idea other then Acadia State Park in ME. I am looking for little trips a 5 yr old can handle. Like in the Concord NH area or West Lebanon/Hanover NH area or somewhere in between. That would be ideal. But I am willing to go further if there is nothing else. Thanks!

Oh gosh, I know there are some up in Franconia Notch, NH--I remember biking on them and being able to see the Old Man of the Mountain when I was a kid. I can't remember exactly where, though. I'll keep thinking!

Try going to the website for the city/town you want to bike in. Look under recreation areas. They usually lists the walking paths and bike trails. Many times these are asphalt -- they have to be if run by a municipality because of handicap access rights.

HTH!

Just took a closer look at those so called "state wide bike routes" and regional routes - be careful! Most of those listed are pretty useless, as they say that the main road in front of our house is a state wide bike route, but it is deadly! Full of cars and high traffic area, I think the only place that has more trafffic is the highway!

There are some useful links on that web page, but I guess you just have to pre-drive each route beforehand. Unless somebody on this board actually knows a nice bike route you are pretty much on your own.

Thanks for all your help! I did find this
http://www.nhtrails.org/Trailspages/...BikTrails.html
some of the descriptions are helpful. Others left me confused. Looks like everything is pretty much geared for the mountain biker when it comes to the state forests. I know there is a paved bike path off 89 just north of Concord. I will start with trying to track that one down. Thank you for the idea of looking at particular town websites. I would expect some of the bigger towns should have some useful information posted.
