Birkenstock lovers... can you wear Tevas? I need some water friendly sandals...

2515 Views 41 Replies 26 Participants Last post by  SimonsMamma
I need some kind of sandal that can just be hosed off when I'm getting dirty, take the kids to the park and get sand/wood chips all over my feet, etc... park trips are really hard on my Birkenstocks so I thought to get a pair of Tevas or something for my park trips but I'm leery of the uh, just flat footbed. I adore my Birks... the only time I don't wear Birkenstocks is when I put on my sneakers for working out.

Suggestions? TIA!

I love my Tevas, but I haven't worn birks in years...
I know these are completely natural but here's a pair I thought about getting plus it supports Breast cancer.

My DH just bought me some Crocs. They are only 3 OZ each and it's like walking on a cloud!

I am currently shopping for Birkenstock's too. I had teva's and loved the. Wore them till they absolutely died. Have you considered Birko-flor?

www.footshopping.com is where I'm currently shopping. It's in Germany where I live but they deliver to the whole world. If you go under materials they explaing what Birko-flor is. You'd have the same foot bed. (and what a wonderful footbed it is) You would also have a more durable shoe.
I've worn Birks and Tevas, and I love them both. I don't think you can go wrong with Tevas. And they make some new styles now that are more foot-shaped, with an arch and such. Mine newest ones are like that, and they're quite comfy.
I bought some Teva sandles a few mos ago and I LOVE them!!! They are so comfy and even though my left leg/foot is swollen (pg related), it doesn't bother my leg a bit. I've never tried Birkenstocks so I really can't compare but just wanted you to know that I'm happy w/my Tevas.

Thanks mamas!
I'm trying to go cheap, so I'll see if I can find a deal on some Tevas or Birk-flor... or maybe Crocs.

Try on the crocs if you can before you buy them... I thought I would like them, but I personally hated them! No accounting for taste, I suppose

I had some tevas about two summer's ago, and they weren't very comfortable. Then last summer I bought myself a pair of Birki's 'Caribbean' they are made of EVA. They were only $45. And I love them, I lived in them last summer and plan to this summer. My first pair was yellow, (they are still in excellent shape, I just wanted another pair) and I just ordered a pair in green. They come in black, pink, and green this year.

I love my birkenstocks and I won't wear anything else but. I think I've spoiled myself. I have happy feet!
My feet used to hurt so bad, so my husband suggested that I try Birkenstocks so I ordered a pair and fell in love with them. And now I have 7 pairs.

I found these Crocs for $29 with free shipping so I went ahead and ordered them last night (totally an impulse buy)... most of the Tevas I see with a better looking footbed are expensive and I have two pairs of Birk sandals so I've already spent a lot even if I didn't pay full price.
Hopefully I'll like these, if not they're selling on eBay well enough I should get most of my money back.

Sandi_lea- the Birks are addicting, aren't they?
I have two pairs of sandals and two pairs of clogs and they are all I wear all year... except for my workouts and needing something to wear that can get dirty. I noticed my sandals getting a bit stinky after getting a lot of dirt/sand/wood mulch on them at the park.

just curious...i read somewhere some reviews about the birk caribean that the toe thing was uncomfortable , did you find it uncomfortable.....?
My birk/knockoffs died while I was nearing the end of my pg with DS. They were the best shoes I've EVER owned. I MISS them I NEED a new pair of clogs. Summer's coming and I NEED my Birks.

ARRRGH they will cost $130. I can't get them Boo Hoo.

I just realized the $29 Crocs I ordered are very similar to the $45 Birk Caribbean so I guess if the Crocs don't work out I'll eBay them and get the Birks.
: Crocs are listed for sale at a Hallmark store in my town, I should've tried some on, but they may just have the clogs.

I haven't really been happy with any velcro sport sandals--something about velcro I don't like--and I got Chacos instead and am quite happy with these: chaco sandal

These shoes look great with nicer dresses and skirts, and I wear them to work as they look enough like a strappy leather sandal, and are neutral enough that I always feel I look good in them. Still, I can simply hose them off after slogging through mud, etc. I was tired of being so hard on my leather sandals with the rugged use my shoes always get.

They feel great. I love the way they are totally adjustable and so very simple.

Because I was pretty sure I had heard they were, but not 100% sure.
That's worth spending a little more IMO, if they are made in USA. I'll add those to my buy-someday list.

busybusymomma Yes I admit it I am an addict!!
I have a pair of leather birkenstock thongs and I swear everytime I wear them I have to clean the foot beds. I live out in western Kansas and it is very dusty hear. (I live in a farming community.) So I have kind-of gotten used to it. Also I wear my caribbean's when I going some where dusty and dirty. I even wear them out on the farm helping my dad farm.

The toe thing does not bother me. Some people just can't stand wearing thongs because of the toe thing. My mom is one of them. I personally have to have thongs, I can't keep slide sandles on, I get toe cramps from trying to keep them on. It has something to do with sandles, because I can wear my clogs just fine.
