Can you tell I'm trying to keep myself busy with doing things?

I have some music for birth ready, but wondered what other ideas for music to give birth to others had?

I really like Enya - I can't find my Enya right now which makes me sad because I think it would put me more in that trance like setting that is easier for me to relax in.

What works for you? What do you have ready for birth? (or what did you use?)

Celtic Women:

Celtic Woman - the Voice

- The Butterfly

- Ave Maria

- Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring

- You Raise Me Up

- Danny Boy

My favorite song of all times! I can play this one on the piano.

- Scarborough Fair

and I like these songs:

LOREENA MCKENNITT THE MUMMERS' DANCE

Loreena McKennitt - The Mystic's Dream

Dante's Prayer ~~ Loreena McKennitt

Prologue by Loreena McKennitt

Zen Medatation music is good. But that seems like an oxymoron. If you ask a Buddist, they'll tell you complete silence is optimal for meditation.

I'm planning on listening to classical music, mainly baroque stuff, during labor. Maybe even things older than that. It helps me relax because I get so caught up in it. But if I change my mind on that while laboring, I'll bring the ipod so that I can switch if necessary.

we made a huge playlist on our ipod, mostly soft, familiar tunes. didn't end up using the...turns out i preferred to labor in silence...dh said it was the longest he's been quiet in his entire life.

yeah with dd I didn't have music. I didn't really know what to get or play. Then it was birthing day and still didn't have any. I didn't think about it once during labor.
I know I focus more normally in some stuff, but well see how it is during labor. I might throw the ipod across the room to shut it up, who knows!

I made a playlist for the 45 minute car-ride to the birth center, but if need be, DH can just listen to music in the front while I have silence in the back -- I don't know if music will be an irritant for me or not. The car playlist has songs I really like but aren't so familiar to me that I'd tune them out. For the birth itself I'll have the whole iPod available and I can sort of imagine listening to Sigur Ros, but I can't think of anything else I have that would set the right mood. And then for the ride home I have a playlist of the baby's womb mix, in case he wants to hear something familiar. Who knows if any of this will get used, though!

I listened to podcasts in early labour- CBC radio and NPR stuff. I knew that I wasn't in active labour when I could still follow the talk

For active labour, I like something upbeat and active. With my first I listened to a mixed CD that my husband made. This time active labour was only an hour, so I didn't get around to it. I can see how mellow, relaxing music might be nice in early labour, but can't imagine listening to it in active labour when I need to be *working* to have the baby.
