Hi All,
www.birthonlaborday.com
Just wondering if anyone has seen this play yet....or know about the contents.

Specifically I want to know if it is appropriate for young ones. (or what age it would be okay for)
I like to think that my kids will be so smart and comfortable when it comes to birth that I wouldn't think twice about taking them, but I am telling a bunch of people about it who are NOT midwives or birth people, and I'm guessing they are gonna ask me how graphic it gets.

If you have any tips for me, I would totally appreciate it!

TIA!

I saw this play in Louisville in June and I can't say enough about it.

It was beautiful and moving and powerful and amazing. Of course, I cried through a lot of it. Basically several women talk about their views of birth, then they inact their birth stories. Everything from a scheduled c-section to a homebirth. All fully-clothed. No costume changes. The only props I can remember are some stools and a few black boxes that were moved around to make tables, etc.

As for kids, it wasn't graphic at all, although some of the language a bit colorful. Probably a PG-13 rating. Little kids would be totally bored.

BUT... It is such a great play. GO SEE IT! Send every woman you know to see it.

I have seen it and we will be performing it after our birthNETWORK conference this year.
I enjoyed it. I'm not sure how much kids would like it but there is nothing really to scare them off. Just various women telling the story of their birth,,,they do make some birth noises but nothing is shown.. I guess there the only thing is there are a couple of swear words, if you're opposed to that.

We are doing a reading of the play this Labor Day weekend (I am producing the event) and I think it is a great idea...if there are any productions happening in anyone's area you should really try to go. There are a lot of wonderful women putting in an amazing amount of time to bring this event to their local community.

I think there are parts of the play that might be intense for younger ones...some women re-enact scenes from their births (with a lot of noise
). And yes, there are a couple of f*** words.

But, I think that for most young children it would not be interesting enough and they may find themselves bored.

So...it really depends on the child. But, be aware that the play runs about 2 hours (with a short intermission in most cases, but some productions might read straight through). Also, there is a talkback after every production where the audience can ask a panel of guests questions. So, add on more time to the day if you stay for that!
