Hi mama's

So I want to know what your Birthday Traditions are? Anyone want to share? I have my two boys and my nephews birthdays coming up May and June. I used to do birthday parties for them except last year I didn't..just didn't have the money and was thinking there's alot of waste that I don't like and alot of presents that we don't need ( plastic junk that ends up broken and thrown out). So I don't know what to do. I did like how the parties would bring people together that we don't usually see...so maybe I could still have people come over..and have it potluck style..don't know what to do about the present thing though..maybe a garden party where we could request people to bring something to plant vs a gift? Don't know how I'd word that though LOL Anyway just looking to see how others celebrate birthdays.
Thanx for sharing

We open our presents in bed first thing in the morning, just the presents from the immediate family, and on the actual birthday (not on the day of a birthday party, if it's on another day). It's silly, but it gets the day started on the right foot.

Well so far for DD we've taken her to a park or indoor play yard both years. We figured it better than the stress of coming up with an invite list/theme/etc. We made general 'If you want to come fine if not that's fine too' with no mention of gifts and making it clear it was just a fun get together.

We've done gifts, a big handmade happy birthday sign and streamers on her door (while she was sleeping so it was a surprise) she knew it was her birthday but other than that did not make it very exclusive 'all about her'.

We start each birthday with greetings from Captain Zoom - either the recorded version or just sung over the phone. I was so excited to get ds his first CZ (which was on CD - mine was a little floppy record!) www.captainzoom.com

We always find out what the birthday person wants to do on their birthday, and then we do it. We also find out what they want to eat and either make it or go out to eat.

For me I have always love going way up into the mountains to a ghost town. Unfortunately, we have now moved so I will have to find a new tradition.

We do the usual party or restaurant thing because that is what they usually ask for. Check out if a festival or fair is happening and you can make it a tradition to celebrate there. We did this for my ds (7) and it was a chocolate festival. There was 22 of us and we were not crowded up in a house and everyone just bought him a treat, toy, ect. of his choice.

I thought a bike ride would be fun! Get as many people as possible who can ride- even more fun at night.

A face painting party where you do each others

A water balloon frenzy at the park

We made ds a pinata from newspaper and flour paste. They finished the outer layer with rainbow tissue paper in bold colors. It was a hot air balloon.
All my kids helped make it.

the only constant here for us is that the birthday person gets to choose anything and everything to do that day and we make it happen (within reason).
