Hi,

I posted this in the general pregnancy section, but thought I would post here, too. Sorry for the duplication!

I was hoping there was someone out there in the Brooklyn, NY area who could give me some suggesions on birthing options. Right now, I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd pg, and I'm considering changing practitioners. I actually really like the OB practice that I am with, however, they only deliver at NYU Med Center in Manhattan, and I REALLY disliked my experience in the hospital. I do NOT want to go back there. I would be very open to either a free-standing or hospital-based birthing center, and would be interested in working with a mid-wife on this birth.

A little back ground on me: I'm 37, but will not be doing the triple-screen or amnio, so it is important my practioner respect this. I had GD with my first pg, so there is a possibility I will have it with this pg. It is important that my practitioner is not a proponent of early induction for mom's with GD. (many OBs want to induce GD moms at 38-39 weeks; my current OB was comfortable with me going a little over 40; from what I hear, mid-wives are even more flexible). Finally, I hemmoraged quite badly after my first birth so it is important that medical assistance not be too far away in case it is needed.

I don't even know where to start, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have heard that Dr Dinnall and Dr Jenyons are good. I will be working w/Jenyons next month so I can let you know but I guess that will probably be too late! I like Sandy Woods at Midwifery Services if you are interested in going the MW route, or of course there are always amazing Homebirth MW's!!! Good luck.

There are several great widwives - I might use:

Joan Bryson, 718-788-0595 and she works with homebirth, the brooklyn birthing center and also a hospital (can't remember which on right now).

I am back in Brooklyn after spending most of my birth abroad. Went to check out Bellevue and HATED it. The birthing center just felt like a hospital with nicer rooms. But I really don't like hospitals, don't feel comfortable theere, want to be really in control. I've started at Brooklyn Birthing now and I love it- they are really attentive and take their time for you. There are two midwives that see you alternately and they both seem wonderful.

Thanks! I actually looked into the Brooklyn Birthing Center, but they don't accept my insurance

I just found a new OB (Dr. Katrina Bradley) who delivers at the birthing center at Roosevelt. I'm very excited! She said I am a great candidate for the birthing center, as long as my GD is under control without insulin. Even if I have to deliver at the hospital, she promised to do everything possible to make it a natural childbirth and give me a birthing center type experience. I am hopeful -- fingers crossed!
