Not really intentional... but instead of tongue and upper lip, it's tongue and upper teeth. Anyone else experiencing this? He's 2.5 and I can't seem to get him to understand that it hurts.. he looks at the bite mark and says "ohhhh coool" but it's not. Trust me. Any advice? Sorry if this question was posted before....

When my son bites (he's 13 months old), he gets a stern "Don't bite Mommy!" the first time. The second time he gets put down for at least half a minute.

If it happens a third time, I close up shop.

I agree with pp. If he bites, he gets a warning and explanation that it hurts. If he does it again, I say, "mommy doesn't nurse boys who bite" and put him down for about a minute (or until my nipple isn't in so much pain any more).

Haven't checked back in a while, sorry. So, yeah... I've done all that too, it doesn't seem to work. It's a comfort thing. Gah.. I don't know.. it's just so painful it makes me not like breastfeeding anymore

Have you tried posting in the Breastfeeding Beyond Infancy forum? I think you'd get some more responses there.

DS has been doing this lately too - totally unintentional. When he unlatches I can see imprints of his upper teeth on my breast. I've tried unlatching him and telling him to open his mouth, but he gets so upset. He's only nursing about once a day, if that. I think we're nearing the end here, but I'd still like to hear what others suggest. Let me know if you figure out something that works.

You are very nice. I "close up shop" for at least 10 minutes the first time DD bites.....
