Bizarre Wireless Name

I was driving on a small road between my older children's elementary school, and my youngest's small montessori school. The street probably has about 10 houses on it, along with the two schools.
 
My Iphone prompted me to connect to a wireless named:
 
"I will hit a child."
 
WTF? Is it a sick joke or a threat? Should I report it? What do you think?

what would there be to report other than an offensive wireless network name? and i highly doubt that is a crime. anywhere. i say ignore it.

While that name requires a slightly more twisted sense of humor than I have, I used to give my APs/routers SSIDs that I thought would make people either laugh or try really hard to hack. Things like "Don't Even Think About It" or "Damn Kids Get Off My Lawn" were common. Probably just someone thinking they are funny.

What the PP's have said. It's not exactly a crime to pick that name for your wireless and some people do come up with odd names because they think it's funny or for some other reason. I came across a "I know your stealing my internet" SSID once. If it's a network that you've never seen before it could be the SSID was previously private and the owner had chosen a name he/she though no one would guess.

Hey, I'm absolutely not commenting on OP's choices, but maybe the folks with the wireless wanted people to see that network name as a sort of reminder about the fact that they're driving a car. That's the first thing that came to my mind; however, I hardly have my finger on the pulse these days.

I don't think you have to be actively using a device for it to pick up a signal from a wireless network.

I don't think you have to be actively using a device for it to pick up a signal from a wireless network.

Well, on my old iPhone and current Droid X, as well as my MacBook, if you want to see what other wireless networks are in the area, you actually have to go into your settings to see the list of available wireless networks. Unless someone has an app that makes that sort of thing pop up on your home screen, it's not going to just pop up on your phone. You have to go looking for that info.

Speaking of strange, but not offensive wireless network names, I just went into the settings on my MacBook and looked to see what my neighbors had named theirs (I'm in an 8 unit building).

Well the OP said that her phone prompted her to connect to the network. My experience has been that if you are outside the range of your normal network then an unsecured network might result in the device asking if you want to connect to said network.
 
That being said, I have never and have no intention of ever using an iPhone.

That's what I mean, though. Maybe it's someone's way of saying hang up or unplug or whatever and drive. (As in I, in this case, the person who's using whatever device, will hit a kid, given that the described locale is between two schools, if not paying attention.)

Shortly after our neighbor's moved in we both got DSL we notice a car parked late at night in front of our neighbor's house.
 
After asking our neighbor if they knew who it was. They didn't. With their permission, I changed their address to we see you and ours to the persons license number and car make. That was the last time we saw them at our house. I showed them how to secure their network and why. 
 
Last time I checked my neighbors was "squirrel nuts are yummy"..........LOL Their oldest grandson has changed it time to time to really obsene things. 
 
I have had "Look at the bus sign" "I hope you get hit by a bus" "Smash" "dont block me in" "I throw rocks" "gobstoppers fit in paint guns" 
 
Once we conspired and had "duct tape ditch" and "nobody will see body" we left that up for a while. 
 
We live were people will park and try to use other peoples internet. From my house I can get at least 7 connections. Now only 1 is not secure. Most people have been nice when we point out the cars that will sit and use their net service.

At a restaurant I frequented there was a network named "Free Scat Porn". For some reason, that amused me.
 
My husband has a tendency to give our network weird/offensive names. Oh, well. 
 
Don't report them. That's just silly!

 Mine automatically finds any network connections and pops them up if I'm on 3G at that time. I know because I stream radio on my phone most of the time and it stops the music whenever one pops up.

Maybe they're sick of people "stealing" their internet? My friend lives in a house with 8 other people and they were using a neighbors wireless connection until one day they went to log on and the name of the connection had been changed to "Not for Neighbors" and the password had been changed.
